Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.

I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.

Hi Kirstens - I'm going to Shady Grove too - seems to be the majority of folks on this board actually! I doubt you'll be lonely - I'm sure the whole class will be forced to bond quickly over the stress. One of the nicer things about having a small group is you can get to know everyone quickly. I doubt I'll know anyone except for those chatting here, anyways either.

I know it's selfish, but for me it is nice to hear that most of the guaranteed admissions folks are going to Baltimore. If they all went to Shady Grove, the class would fill up really quick, and there'd be no room for me!

If the backend of SURFS is anything like the systems we use at my job...updating it may be a manual PITA process, so I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a while for "committee-readys" to filter through. I'd rather they prioritize getting my app out to the committee as quickly as possible instead of updating SURFS.

That being said, I'm still waiting as well. That's a bit of a bummer that Shady Grove tends to hear back on the later side :(.

Shady Grove admissions notifications are not separate from Baltimore's - they happen at the same time. Accepted students first get a phone call from the admissions office. Once all Shady Grove students have been notified, I am informed that I can now call them welcoming them and offering to answer initial questions. A few times SG students have missed the call from Baltimore and they get the news from me instead - which I love! No delay for notification of either kind of student is planned in the procedure.

Thanks for the clarification! That's great to hear.

Yes, thank you Grey Lady! Welcome to the thread!

I actually have a question, if you don't mind answering it. In a previous cycle's thread, I saw that you said that for the TEAS, anything under a 70 in any of the four areas is considered a red flag. When you said under 70, I was wondering if you are referring to a percentile or your own individual score on the test.

I'm not even sure how to read the TEAS scores. I don't know what score schools are looking at, the percentile or adjusted individual score.

@katiep_123

Its a pathway that UMD college Park has.

You just have to come into cp as a true freshman. Keep a certain GPA.

We didn't need to submit all parts of the application either (no letters of rec. No TEAS, no application fee)

Theres not a lot of us in the pathway. This spring Theres only 4 of us total for both campuses! I'm sure when it gets more advertisement and popular it will get bigger but now its pretty low key.

kirstens, out of curiosity, how did you find out about the program, given that it was so unknown at the time?

Also, any more status changes? :x3:

My status has not changed. :crying2:

Same, vigor145...

In other news, has anyone been on UMSON's website so far today? It has the same link but a totally different website layout. I'm guessing it is just down for maintenance for its newest layout, and this is just a stand-in. Probably by the time some of you read this it'll be back to normal!

gah! my status has changed to "committee ready." @___@ !!! thank you all for such helpful information. i really hope i enter this school with all of you. you all are very gracious and i would be so honored to be part of this school with such wonderful future nurses! :)

happymochi! Awesome!! :specs: I hope we can meet up one day, even though we may be go to separate campuses! Much luck to you!!! Can't wait to be your distant classmate!
