Am I in the wrong place?? I would think that there would be a lot of chatter with the deadline being tomorrow!

I am sure there are oodles applying. Now...where is everyone?!

Got my call back ultimate decision will be done in two days. For all those students whose statuses are unchanged there are still spots open for admissions.

I got accepted in the Adult/Gero NP program for Fall 2012!!!

Hi everyone! Congrats to those joining us in the BSN program next fall at UMSON Shady Grove (and also to those of you who got into Baltimore as well!) I'm finishing up my first semester next week and let me tell you, you guys are in for quite the ride! You should be proud of yourselves for getting into this awesome program!

If you're looking to buy textbooks, I just posted both Pathopharm books on amazon.com. You WILL need to buy these books for this class (you can't pass Professor McLeskey's weekly reading quizzes without 'em)!

Lehne's Phathopharmacology for Nursing Care just came out with a new, 8th edition, but it is highly unlikely that there will be much difference between them (except that the 8th edition is over $100!) I have also posted the other book for Patho, Porth's Essentials of Pathophysiology for sale on Amazon as well. Visit my seller site to scoop 'em up before someone else does!

Amazon.com At a Glance: anniecait

The last book I have up for sale is Perry and Potter's Clinical Nursing Skills, which is a HUGE help for 304 Fundies lab validations. It isn't required but I recommend it if you learn best by following set steps!

If you have any questions about the nursing program at Shady Grove, or nursing school in general, I would be happy to chat with you!

Hi Annie:) What do you recommend me to study before the program starts??Also, did you have to write a lot of papers in the first semester??Thank you!!!!

Hi Apple,

My best advice would be to get ahead in your classes by getting the syllabus or welcome letters from your professors from each class and starting on the reading material and taking notes ASAP. This goes ESPECIALLY for fundamentals. The earlier you get your fundies book and start reading, the better. It's the one thing I wish I had done before classes started!

As for papers, there's virtually none until the last few weeks of NURS320 (Research) which is a group paper.

Thank you so much for your immediate response!! I am so excited to start studying nursing, but super nurvous at the same time:/ What is welcome letter?? I will definitely study ahead. Thank you for your advice:)

Welcome letters from the professors for 304, 315 and 333 will be posted soon on the Accepted Students tab on the School of Nursing website. I think they will be all the way at the bottom of the instructions for registering for classes for Shady Grove students. They include the required books, professor's contact information and the first reading assignments.

Thank you for your response Gray Lady!! Do you know if it is ok to start sending copy of my CPR card and health report to the nursing office?? Also, do you think I should get a flu vaccine in the U.S??

Yes, please start sending in your forms and CPR card. You will need the new flu vaccine which will not be available until July or August.

Ok! Thank you! I will send those today;) Do you know when I can get information packet?? I can't wait to start nursing school!!!!!!!

CONGRATS to everyone who got in. Good Luck to all those still waiting to get in. And Don't give up to all those who didn't get in this time.

I am currently a first semester student at the Shady Grove campus. Some pearls of wisdom passed down to me and now I'm giving them to you:

1. For your Littmans stethoscopes, I bought mine on www.medisave.net and right now they are going for $67.00 engraving AND shipping are FREE. It's a good deal!

They also have scrubs at decent prices.

2. Don't buy any "supplies" (i.e. pen lights, reflex hammers, etc) they will all be given to you on your first day of Fundamentals lab.

3. DO The READING for FUNDAMENTALS over the summer. That's the one class where reading the book WILL save your grades. Read AS MUCH as you can ahead of time and take notes. YOU WON'T REGRET THIS!

4. The program is A LOT of work. Sometimes you will feel like it is TOO MUCH. So it is very important that you keep the focus and know what your motivations are. There will be lots of laughs, uncomfortable moments, humbling moments and crying fits. Before the first round of exams, my friend asked me "How are you doing?" and I just bursted into tears. Luckily, his sister is a nursing student so he didn't think it was strange at all. Those were my only tears shed for the semester but I'm sure there will be lots more when the 2 years are up.

5. If you have the time, get involved with other campus activities (like NSNA/MANS/UMANS).

NSNA is the National Student Nurses Association, MANS is Maryland Association of Nursing Students and UMANS is University of MD Assoc of Nursing Students.

You are automatically a member of UMANS however, NSNA has a fee of $35 for 1 year membership. They give Scholarships and other benefits so, it's worth checking out.

If you are working (I worked this semester, but won't be working next semester) IT IS HARD to get involved in stuff and work, especially if u aren't on a flexible schedule (my bosses are very supportive, so I was lucky).

6. YOU CAN DO THIS!

If you ever want to talk or cry, look me up; I'll be happy to hear your woes and/or triumphs.

Thank you for your helpful post, Umsonspring2012!! Do you know which book we use for fundamental??
