scheduling for umb both campuses

U.S.A. Maryland

I have looked at the schedules for both campuses, since I am willing to attend either. But I'm confused. So in addition to the times posted on the class schedules is there more class time? So they dont give you all the scheduling info you need? I dont see anything about clinicals and how come the SG campus has communications module and lab and the bmore campus is different?

You can only take classes at SG if you're enrolled at SG. They're really quite seperate.

Labs are assigned at Baltimore during the first class. Clinicals are sometimes assigned that way, too; some semesters they post them online and you register for them like any other class - they change the way they do it from semester to semester.

It's very difficult to know your full schedule ahead of time. They want you to be available any time.

If you do get assigned to something you just can't do, schedule or location-wise, you can always try to switch. It's pretty easy to switch labs, more difficult to switch clinicals. The school will not accomodate any special requests - you have to figure it out on your own.

As a matter of fact, a lot of what you do at UMD will be on your own. They call it independent learning.

At SG, the Comm section only meets four times - beginning a few weeks after the semester begins for 4 consecutive weeks. At SG, there is only one offering for lecture classes. For the first semester clinicals are assigned. They are a total of 24 hours. Once the assignments are made you can switch with others if you can find someone willing to swap. This semester the clinicals were on Wednesdays (2-12 hour shifts) Thur (3-8 shifts from 3-11) and Saturdays (3-8 hour shifts).

By the way not sure if you know this or not but you can't take classes at both campuses - you have to apply to one or the other.

You may want to take a look at the other thread here about UMB applications. It can answer a lot of questions you may have.

Good luck! JR

The one class that you can take at either campuses is your elective. If you go to SG and would like to take an elective that is only available at Baltimore, you can do so... and vice versa.
