Nursing Schools in MD/DC area

I am looking to apply for a nursing program for Fall 2008. I am pretty new to the area, and still trying to find my way. I am currently looking at Montgomery College, Hopkins, CUA and UMD-Baltimore. I looked on nurses.com and they had a listing of a ton of schools for this area, but I hadn't heard of a lot of them. Any other suggestions/where you are enrolled or graduated from? I am terrified of not getting accepted into any of them :uhoh21:

Hi KTP! I felt the same way when I applied for the nursing school early in the year. I submitted applications to 3 programs and got into all of them. Hang in there! I know it can seem intimidating, but it can be done!

I'll be starting Univ of MD in August, so if you want any info on my experiences there, let me know.

I am in Montgomery County, but I know from my research that Baltimore has tons of programs in their community college system. They have a variety of requirements, too. (some easier to get into than others) I could not handle a commute to Baltimore from Montgomery County, though.

I agree with the other poster- check out the MBON website and check the pass rates for the boards. Montgomery College, for instance, while convenient for me, has lower pass rates than I think I am willing to accept. They are easier to get into than other area programs, though, so if I can't get into any others, MC may be my fall-back choice.

Not sure where the op is located, but have you also looked at the satellite programs at UMD?You apply to the school in Baltimore and your degree comes from there, but most classes are held off campus. (Shady Grove is a good example.)

And to Lady pie- MC has similar pass rates as UMD, and except for JHU, outdoes the other 4years. Not a bad fall-back;)

Actually, I am in school in texas. Up to this point I have lived in MD all my life and know alot about the area. Grew up in rockville, graduated from MC and UMB. I did not want to go to UMD's CRNA program as it was brand new at the time of my app (didn't want them to work out the kinks on me), elected to apply to a program in texas and at georgetown as my backup school. Love the MD/DC area, but the program in texas was a much better fit for my personality.

I am attending University CRNA program in Philly. Doing some core courses now but will actually start anesthesia in Jan. I will send you a PM.

if you are looking for a ASN program then Howard county CC and Freddricks CC both offer evening nursing program.

Thanks everyone for your advice! It's rough moving to a new place and trying to figure out reputations.

I'll be applying to UMD (hoping to get Shady Grove - I live in Silver Spring), Hopkins, CUA, and Montgomery College. Wish me luck, and good luck to anyone else who is reading this and thinking about applying!
