Mount St. Mary's ABSN 2011 applicants

U.S.A. Maryland

Applying to MSMC's 2011 absn program? Yeah, me too. Just wanted to hearing from others in the same boat.

I'm also applying to CSUN and UW Seattle. I'm debating applying to Oregon Health and Sciences University and I'll probably apply to CSU San Marcos too. My first picks are CSUN (cuz its cheaper) and UW Seattle. How'bout you Yukikon?

SDNurse, the only other school I'm going to be applying to is Concordia University in Irvine. They also have an accelerated program that just started a couple years ago - I think maybe in 2007 or 2008? My micro lab partner's wife is currently in it and she loves it. It would save me some money since their program is only $29,000, compared to MSMC which I believe is in the 40 range, plus the cost of living. If I went to Concordia I could live with my parents for a year while I do the program, and it would save me some money. But my heart is set on MSMC even though the tuition is so high - Mount Nurses have an extremely good reputation and I've always been interested in going there. Depending on whether I get into MSMC or Concordia, I might apply to UC Denver, University of Miami, and I also looked at UW Seattle too. I also thought about applying to the entry level MSN programs at CSULB and CSUF, but I'm still iffy on those.

I know what you mean about the MSN programs. I had my heart set on the UCSF one, and I went to 2 info sessions, but after a lot of debating, I just wanted to hurry up and get my BSN, get some experience, and then get the MS in a more specialized area of nursing like anesthesia or something simillar.

BTW--I've been checking webadvisor like crazy and it still says "in review".

I dont want to harass them by calling too much, but I wonder when the first round of notifications will go out?

Hi Everyone,

I'm glad I found you! I also applied to the program. I live in the San Fernando Valley but my work and school schedule takes me everywhere. I work in Torrance and my significant other and pre-req classes are in Ventura. It's a long story...

I wanted to tell those that are discouraged by the commute to reconsider. Given that we'll have to be at rounds at 7am- the traffic between 5:30am-6am on the 5 south, 101 south, and 110 south isn't bad. I know it sounds far-fetched but we will be having 12-15 hr. days in any accelerated nursing program. It's hard to get used to but manageable.

Did any of you apply to: WesternU, UCLA, Azusa Pacific, or CSUCI?

SDnurse - mine still says in review too. Judging from experience from applying to their associates degree program, we probably won't see any changes on webadvisor until December. I heard that interviews are held late december or January, so they won't email or call us about that until next month. After i got accepted into the ADN program, the status still said in review for at least 3 weeks! Which gives you an idea of how slow they are at updating their system. I only check webadvisor once a week or so because I know there won't be any changes. I hate all the waiting and anticipating...

Starry01 - I was contemplating on applying to western's entry level msn program but like SDnurse, decided I wanted my BSN first before I go on and get my masters. Good luck and it would be so awesome if we all got in :) is MSMC your top choice?

Am I gonna be boo-ed out of here if I say that MSMC isn't actually my first choice?

:nono:

I ONLY say that because the cost of tuition is high and I'm already planning toward a Master's degree, so I don't want to keep compiling student debt. From a financial standpoint, CSUN is my first choice, UW Seattle my second, and MSMC my third. I know what a solid reputation MSMC nurses have, so ofcourse its nothing to shake a stick at. Those just happen to be my personal preferences. How'bout everyone else?

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say I also applied for the Spring 2011 start date for the ABSN at Mount St. Mary's. Would love to keep in touch and find out when people hear about interviews and acceptance. This weekend I got a letter in the mail stating they received my completed application and it is under review; they will be contacting me through email or phone for an interview. Good luck to everyone.

@Yukikon: I'm not sure if Mt. St. Mary's is my top choice. I had a great vibe leaving their info. session but have heard mixed views from employers on their program- which is true of any program...I applied to both kinds of programs to increase my chances of acceptance in CA. I have a good friend that completed a direct entry master's program straight out of undergrad and is doing extremely well. Both programs start you off with the bascis.

@Jo_Fitz: I received the same letter. :-)

Good luck everyone!

Hi Jo!

Welcome to our thread. I've been looking for a part-time job so I've been a MIA, but I received the confirmation letter as well. I'm working on my personal statement for CSUN right now, and am nervous about how I'm going to fit all of my background and goals onto 2 double-spaced pages. Otherwise, I'm telling myself to not check webadvisor at least till mid-december because its just a tease and there wont be any new info on there, not matter how many times a day I log in and look.

I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving and hope we all get in to the school of our choice :)

Happy Thanksgiving and welcome to the thread Jo! I'm leaving tomorrow for Japan because my best friend is over there teaching English, so I probably won't be on this thing for about a week. I'm sure there won't be any updates from MSMC any time soon though, haha. I haven't received the letter in the mail you guys are all talking about, I hope it comes or else I'm going to feel like an outsider :sniff: Anyways, good luck to everyone and hopefully we'll all hear some good news soon! Happy Holidays! :candy:

Yukikon-

have a great time in Japan!!!

I guess I jinxed myself, because I just checked the website and it said "denied to the college"

:(
