Applying to MSMC's 2011 absn program? Yeah, me too. Just wanted to hearing from others in the same boat.

Thanks for all the info! I'm very excited/nervous to start, I don't know what to expect. :)

Also to give an answer, from some who is taking Bioethics through MSMC to those who were asking...

Yes, it would be nice to leave earlier on Tuesdays and not stay til 5 pm, but our professor is really funny and really kooky so she definitely keeps us entertained. She is RIDICULOUSLY smart and well-known and respected in the world of bioethics. If you like philosophy, you will like her class and will enjoy having in-depth discussions on the issues in a classroom setting. The downside is that it costs a lot more than Taylor (to the tune of $3000 or so- total cost) and many of us are tired after a long day. While it would've been nice to have that time slot open to study for other classes, I chose to take it at the mount and definitely don't regret it. Plus, you get to enjoy spending more time with your friends and we definitely have a fun time and joke around in class a lot. And it's definitely useful for your practice as a nurse, so it's not "just another dumb class". I'm definitely not trying to "sell" anyone on taking it at the mount (it's expensive, a long day of classes, and extra work on top of your other classes). All i'm trying to say is that if you decide to take it thru Taylor, then you will definitely appreciate the extra time to study and such during your second semester, but if you take it at the mount, then you will adjust your schedule accordingly and it's not that big a deal. I definitely wouldn't say taking it at the mount is any kind of extra hardship.

Good luck guys!

Thanks biscuitmama, that makes me feel a lot better! A lot of us are going to take it at msmc because there were delays with the online taylor class and it wasn't up and running in time to take it online. Too bad it's so expensive, though! Is it 3000 on top of the regularly 18,000 per semester tuition, or is that included?

Hi I am also going to be starting the AccBSN program at MSMC and am so excited/anxious as well! This is off topic to what the current convo is, but they said at the math test that we won't have time for anything including weddings, fun, etc. Did you all who are in the program think that was pretty true? I'm definitely willing to make the time commitment and I know I'll find out how it really is once I start the program, but I guess it's just making me nervous in the mean time.

Any feedback you have would be great :)

mnicole, are you part of our facebook group? if not, look us up. MSMC ABSN May '11 Cohort

Yes, they say that you won't have time for special events, etc. However, life moves on and some things are out of your hands and well, life happens. While taking time off isn't the easiest thing, there are ways around it and most instructors are extremely understanding and flexible. However, I can't say that for all of them. If you can help it, don't get married and don't have a baby during the program. With that said, we have one of each in our cohort and I think it will be just fine. During your 2nd semester, be prepared for weekend clinicals. All of us have at least one weekend day in clinicals, and in my group, it is both Sat and Sun this current 7 weeks stint. This is definitely testing my relationship with my boyfriend.

Be sure to get a schedule book that you can reference quickly and often. I call mine My Bible, as I look at it so much. I feel kinda lost without it, and my anxiety level can rise if I misplace it.

The date is getting close, so good luck to everyone! Remember to bring a camera for skills lab in the first couple of weeks. If anyone needs to buy books, we're willing to sell. :D

As far as textbooks, do you recommend buying the edition that they say you need, or could you survive off a previous edition of the textbook? They're so stinkin' expensive!

Yes! Save your money for tuition by buying older editions if possible! I can't think of any textbooks that absolutely required the most recent edition.

Yep, it's an extra $3000. If anyone tells you differently, don't listen. Some of us were told it was included but then we found it was an additional $$.

Thank you so much!!! Good to know :)

I am graduating from the ABSN in 19 days!!! For those that are getting ready to begin a new year, my advice before you begin is to take the Bioethics class online at Taylor University. It will only cost $800 compared to $3000. And like others say you will be so grateful you got it out of the way before second semester begins. The Taylor class is very doable. You write 5 papers then you are done. The instructor grades the paper quickly and the topics are very interesting. I finished the class in 6 weeks with an A.

For anyone who is currently in the program, I was wondering when you guys got your list of books to purchase. We only have a little over 3 weeks before the program starts, and I want to start purchasing books ahead of time so I can find the cheapest option. According to one of the people in our cohort, the bookstore told them the list may not be out for "a couple more weeks" which scares me, but she was able to find a list of books for 2 courses. I want to check with you guys first before I purchase these, because I don't want to waste money and have the list change... with that being said, do these books look familiar/did you guys use them too for your first semester?
