Montgomery College, how long?

I sent in my application for the fall at Montgomery College today. The deadline is March 1st. Does anyone know about how long I can expect to wait before I get an answer?

I went to the information session yesterday. The presenter said not to look for a response for two months from the application deadline.

I was told May, June at the latest, but that was back in January. They've extended the deadline to tomorrow (April 1), so that may have changed. They also changed their TEAS requirements.

That is really frustrating that they changed the deadline. It is especially unfair for those of us who worked really hard and got things in on time. I think they did that last semester as well. I wonder if they aren't getting enough qualified applicants.

I found out that I could expect an answer by mid May but like you said, maybe that has changed with the extended deadline.

How did you do on the TEAS? Thanks to the new TEAS requirements I passed. I was most worried about the reading section and just barely made the cutoff for that and did very well overall. I've taken all the preregs and have a good GPA. I don't see why I wouldn't get in but you never know with these things.

I think the notifications will still come out in May/June, so that hasn't changed. I had been studying to re-take the TEAS because I just missed the Science cutoff by two percentage points, when I happened to go on Montgomery's website today and saw that the requirements had changed. Can you imagine if I hadn't gone to their website? I would still be studying for the next two months and would be paying to re-take a test that I didn't need to re-take! Insane.

I think my overall score was 78% and all of my pre-req's are completed, as well as the Foundations of Nursing course, which I took at CSM. I'm trying to keep my courseload as light as possible when I start the program, so I'm not too stressed.

Let me know when you hear something and I'll do the same.

I found out about the TEAS changes when I got home after the exam. I was so ticked off. I had an 83.3 on reading and the cutoff was 84. I scored an 87 overall and was in the 96th percentile. My husband said it didn't make sense and told me to double check. Thank goodness!

What is CSM and what is the Foundations of Nursing course? I saw they were offering one of the entry level courses over the summer but I don't think I want to do that.

BTW, we are the same age. Nice to know. I feel so old starting at this age.

Hello Everyone-

As far as I know, the Teas score adjustments (83% reading, 66% composite) were made back in Jan/Feb. I emailed the dept. a few days ago regarding the app. deadline extension; no explanation was given for the extension, but it shouldn't delay the process and we should receive a decision in April (info was vague, but I guess it'll have to do).

Correction, I got an overall of 85%, in the 96th percentile.

Anyhow, Lil' Dragon...so you were told we'd get results in April? I hope so!

I'm 36. My birthdate is 8/3/74. How about you? Yes, I felt pretty ancient in my pre-req classes, but I don't think about it much these days. I'm focused on getting into the program, becoming an RN, then going onto get my BSN, then ultimately becoming a Nurse Anesthetist. So, I have a few years of studying ahead of me, but I'm looking forward to it.

CSM stands for College of Southern Maryland. One of their campuses is located in LaPlata, MD, where I grew up. The Foundations of Nursing course takes the place of NU 105: Nursing in Healthcare at MC. It's just a 1 cr class, so it wasn't a big deal, but it was nice to get it out of the way. One less thing to think about.

I'm lucky to have already received my bachelor's degree in psychology, so I already had most of the pre-requisites completed. I just needed A&P 1 & 2 and Microbiology. So, it could've been worse.

I can't tell you how relieved I am to have seen the change in requirements for the TEAS. I'm still stunned that I could have been spending the next two months, plus the two months that I've already been studying, to re-take the exam. What a waste of time and effort that would have been. Someone must've been watching over me yesterday. I feel very fortunate.

I'm a November baby, also 36.

I have a BA in Journalism and also had most of the pre-reqs. I just needed to complete the sciences...107, 204, 205 and am now in 203. I also needed to complete SO101. So far I've had all As.

I remember when I was in 107 I had a professor by the name of Khan for lab. At one point I started singing Chakka Kahn (sp?) and all my lab partners looked at me like I was losing it. That was my, "OMG, I'm old moment". Sadly it took place on my birthday. I was laughing and crying at the same time...right there in lab!

Where are you located? I'm up in Germantown. You, me and Lil' Dragon will have to get together to study since we are all of the same age. They have the class schedules up for viewing. Registration isn't until Apr. 25 or something but it gives you an idea what your schedule the first semester will be. I hope I get a low number in the clinical lottery too. Where do you want to go?

Wow, nurse anesthes make lots of money. That takes a lot of training though. You could just be a physician assistant and make even more for the same amount of schooling. But I guess that is a personal preference. I just want to get in the job market. My kids are 5 and 2 years old. I want to be working by the time my youngest starts kindergarten. If I get in to the program this fall then I should be done before then.

Yes, I think we both had a TEAS angel :-), having both just missed the cutoff in one area. I think their old scores were too tough personally. Especially if you look at what the average score/percentage is in their program. It would seem that they'd never be able to fill all their openings.

neyman- That is just too funny. Chakka Kahn was one of my favorites.

I celebrated my 40th this past Jan. Wow, that still sounds very surreal to me. I spent the past couple of semesters completing all preferred courses and had most pre-req. courses completed years ago. It did take a little adjustment to get back into the college mindset, but I really didn't feel much different than any other student, nor did they know or care about my age anyway, I think.

Monster620 and I have very similar career goals. I'm considering the RN to BSN-MS @ UMD. I never thought I'd be back to school, especially after all these years. If fate had anything to do with, then it was bound to happen sometime.

I was told the score adjustments were made due the difficulty. Version 5 scores were about 10 pts lower than previous versions. With the avg. national and program scores being in the 60's, the adjustments make sense. You scored very well.

I scored 79%, not great, but probably well enough??? Perhaps my GPA will help.

It's nice to know we're going through the steps together.
