Maryland License by endorsement

U.S.A. Maryland

:confused:i have been working for the last week + getting all my paper work together for my licensure by endorsement for the state of maryland. i am from ohio currently and don't plan on moving until i get a job in maryland. does anyone know the answer to my 2 questions? 1. i have heard you cannot have 2 licenses in 2 states at one time, so when/if i get my license in maryland will my ohio license automatically become inactive? if so can i choose the date that it does? 2. there is a form that i have to fill out my primary residency. currently it is in ohio, but it won't be once i get a job/get my license in maryland. will i automatically be not considered for a license by endorsement if i put my primary residency in ohio? any help is much appreciated. the maryland board of nursing still has not answered my questions after 4 days. thank you

Ohio is not in the Nursing Compact (Maryland is) so you may hold a license in both states. The MD BON can be slow at times. Your Ohio license does not become invalid when you get a MD license. You might want to keep it renewed if there is a chance of returing to Ohio. Be sure to inform the Ohio BON of your new Maryland address.

 Thank you soooo much!

if you're thinking of moving to baltimore, i suggest you get the paperwork now and start getting the fingerprints. i had to come to baltimore from philly to come get the paperwork and do my prints and it's not worth it.

The MD BON takes forever to mail it to you so request the forms now and put in the application so that by the time you get a job, everything would be working as planned. I'm sure you'll get a job cuz hospitals here are still hiring. Although that might end when all the people from states with nursing glut come over.

Thanks for the heads up I just passed my boards today:D but I am going to get on that paperwork for my maryland license. I haven't heard from JHH yet so I am applying to other hospitals in Baltimore as of tomorrow morning. As my mom says it can't put all your eggs in one basket right?

Proverbs, can I print all that stuff online in regards to endorsement because I don't want to go down until I have all the paperwork and my license.

No you can't ,If you call them you will hear it on the machin. I do agree with "Proverb" you do have to start early . I moved back to MD from PA they are very very slow so please GO there and finsh everyyhing. Get enogh cash on you cause every thing is very close to the board building. fingerprint right behind the building, money order across the street. if you need any temporary licence just submit it right there with the fees and they will give it to you right away. Do your selg afanor and photocopy any document you will think that they will need it. I'm telling you that from an exp last month. Get ready to stay for over 2-3 hours to do your fingerprint & criminal. grab abook with you and adrink. GO there don't mail nothing give it hand to hand GOOD luck

samsam is right. The best way to endorse into MD is to drive to Baltimore and go directly to the BON. I have never known of speaking to a human when I have called there. A friend of mine took 5 months to get her endorsement.

Do you know why it took 5 months? I applied for a license by endorsement about 3 weeks ago and now I'm getting nervous. I'm not eligible for a temporary license since I held a temporary MD license in the past (didn't end up using it).

Thanks!!

They were just that slow. She had everything in and called once a week but never got to speak to a real person, only leave messages that were never returned. It took her 2 trips to Baltimore. She did have a MD LPN license and was endorsing her RN license. She was able to practice as an LPN until her endorsement came through.

Hi guys, i need to ask something. Does MD BON still accepts TEOFL exam for endorsement. A friend of mine called the BON last week after he received his TOEFL scores and the BON told him that they're not accepting TOEFL anymore and that he needs to take another english exam such as OPI. In their website it says there that "a score of 26 is passing in the TOEFL IBT;" Does it mean that i can only have a score of 26 on the speaking part? I'm a little confused. I'm also planning to apply for MD endorsement and dont know which English exam to take. Hope someone could help me.
