Johns Hopkins new grad 2011

U.S.A. Maryland

Hello Maryland nurses :)

I'm from the Boston area, graduating with my ADN in May. I applied for the JHH clinical nurse residency program and I just got contacted for an interview! I don't know when it will be yet but I'm very excited. I'm not sure if DH and I will be able to relocate, but even the chance to interview with them is an amazing opportunity. Has anyone interviewed there and have any tips? Is anyone in the program currently? I requested the general medicine as my first choice, and critical care and surgery as my secondary choices. The job market is really tough up in the Boston area so I hope something pans out in Baltimore. Everything I've read says the Hopkins name really opens doors for you!

The 120 hours does not apply to the PICU. I just got hired on that unit without any ICU clinical experience. It took about a week to hear back from the recruiter. I listed the PICU as my first choice in my email.

Congrats!!! And thanks for the time-frame, I feel better now:)

I JUST got a primary interest from JHH. The problem I am having is that I forgot which unit I applied for, but I think its peds :( Does it matter? And what do I say for the area I am interested in. My real interest is ED but I do not know if I can say that or if I can only say peds subspecialties (if I had applied to peds that is). I am confused...

Scarlettanager-

I had a similar issue when I got my primary interest e-mail. I couldn't remember what type of pediatric unit I applied for. I told them my main interest was in ped's med-surg, followed by critical care. Turns out I had applied for a PICU job, but they offered me a ped's med-surg interview.

so my advice is: be honest

Scarlettanager and 06CaliforniaRN ,

How long did it take for you to hear back and get the primary interest email. I applied almost two weeks ago and I checked my status and it says it has been reviewed by career services and now being sent to the nurse managers.

Also 06CaliforniaRN did you end up getting the job you interiview for?

Specializes in Surgical.

If you are interested in the job, you should contact a recruitter directly. Call the hospital, ask for Nurse Recruitment and they will transfer you. Each department has different recruiters so tell them the area that you applied. Sometimes, people leave their jobs right at the time you apply and your application could get lost. I went on a an interview and that happened to me. They assigned me to a new recruiter but they never contacted me. If you really are interested you can always just show up in person to say hello!

Its very competaitive out there, stand out. If you know of anyone that works in that hospital it will help if they call or email recruitment or the nurse manager as well. Also, it is helpful to have letters of reference-for example from a clinical instructor, professor, a professional contact.

Good luck!

It took about 2 weeks for me to hear back after I submitted my primary interest e-mail, and my interview is next week.

It took 2 weeks after applying for me to get the primary interest email. I just responded by saying that my interest areas are pediatric med-surg and emergency medicine. Now looking back, I feel like emergency medicine might have sounded too broad? Anyways let's see what happens. CalifroniaRN good luck on your interview!!!

Good luck to ALL in your upcoming interviews. Keep us updated!!

I too am interested in Peds and I just received the primary interest e-mail from JHH. I'm not picky on what sub-category with pediatrics as long as it is pediatrics! Hopefully in a few weeks, I'm worthy enough to set up an interview date!

My interview got postponed til next month:\ Good luck to everyone else who is beginning the process of applying and setting up interviews!

Good news, I got accepted for an interview! :yeah: I'm excited! Yeah the nurse recruiter mentioned in the letter that they are setting up interviews for the December month. Probably means new hires will start in the new year. Either way I am so bless for this opportunity. We'll see what God has in store for each and every one of us.

Good luck to all!!

This is the email I got today: "While we do have openings in the CMSC-4 School age unit, the manager is currently interviewing for positions that will start in January. She has not yet decided if she is going to be holding an orientation in the later winter or early spring.

Because your graduation date is so close to her projected start date, you would not be licensed in time for that date. I will keep your application on file and please check back with me in a couple of months for updates on position availability."

I graduate mid-December, so I guess that's why. Should I ask her to pass my info on to other recruiters?

Good luck to all of you :) I am trying to stay positive but I am disappointed
