Johns Hopkins new grad 2011

hello Guys,

I am a new nurse, just graduated last December, and I have offers from Washington Hospital Center and Johns Hopkins medicine stepdown (or prpgressive care as they call it), and I am really having a hard time deciding.

I am in northern Virginia and I dont have a problem moving to the Baltimore area..any comments/inputs pls.

I have friends working as new grads in both hospitals. I think you'll be happier at Hopkins, if you don't mind moving.

are they both in residencies? i also have the feeling that hopkins will be better for me, based on what ive heard so far, but i am kinda nervous and scared that hopkins will be too fast-paced and crazy for me.

do you happen to know what unit they'll be working in?

You should apply to NURSE CLINICIAN positions, without the I or IM. These positions are entry level and would take new grads. Also, the NC positions will only be up in the JHH website for a day, they usually take it down after being up for a day because they receive so much applications. I suggest that you check the site twice a day- one in the morning and one at night. I was able to find multiple NC positions doing it that way.

Yes, they're both were in residencies. Once is in CCU the other is in Oncology.

Any tips on getting into Hopkins or Washington Hospital Center? I just applied to the WHC for JULY 2012 nurse residency but wanted to know how long the process takes. I am really wanting to relocate and would love to work at Hopkins.

I am in WHC April residency program. I think it took about 3 weeks after applying online before I got a call from them for an interview, but prior to that, I got an email asking me what are the three specialties I am interested in. On the day of my interview, I interviewed with the nurse recruiter and the nurse director of the unit i am interviewing. A day after my interview, I got an offer letter from them, but I think it really depends on the nurse director as to how fast she/he can make a decision.

For Hopkins, you gotta keep checking their website as the entry level positions are not on there for a long time. They take them down after having it posted for a day, sometimes not even a day. The positions will be "Nurse Clinician" with no "I or IM", and it should say entry-level. I suggest that you check their website everyday in the morning and at night. Based on my experience, Hopkins is slower. I got my offer letter from them 3 weeks after my interview, and I already had accepted the WHC offer at that point. But I really like the JHH position and of course the hospital.

Also, WHC will ask you situational or scenario clinical questions, trying to see how will you go about different clinical scenarios, while Hopkins will ask you how will handle difficult patient, colleagues, shift, etc.

HI! I just had my phone interview in Johns Hopkins Bayview MEdical Center. I am so nervous. The recruiter was very nice and said she would forward my papers to the manager and call me next week or after she has talked to the manager. Is this a good sign? Oh my god, i am so nervous I really want to work there.

What floor? I started there about 2 months ago and love it. Be consistent with the recruiter. Are you a new grad?

I graduated in 2010 from the Philippines. My first job ever was at a long term care / rehabilitation facility here in NY from feb-july 2012. The recruiter said things about the units like Sub-Acute unit, Vent Unit...etc. I'm not familiar with the units in bayview medical. Is this a nursing home facility of the hospital or clinical rehab? Because she said it's not an acute care but a post acute care setting.

Hi-

I think that is the care center area more like the post acute they also have a "nursing home" portion as well. I am not over there alot so dont have alot of info although i know that they have hired a few new grads for over there as well.
