Hello all. Just wondering how the Fall/Spring courses are coming along. Pretty soon I should be hearing back about the 2015 WEA program. I'm sure I'll have more specific questions if I get accepted but then I'll have less time to be on the message board. Sigh. Any warnings/advice/information you could give to the incoming class would be great. Thanks in advance! You guys are almost done!!!

Hi, sorry I forgot to respond to this last week...busy, busy! Fall courses were good- Med Surg 1, Mental Health, and Contemporary Issues. We learned a lot and we definitely earned that 5-6 week break over the winter before Spring semester began! Now we are in Maternal-Newborn and Pediatric Nursing for 7 weeks. We'll begin Med Surg 2 and Leadership in mid-March. So far, this is my favorite semester. Despite the nonstop paperwork and tests basically every week, I personally love the content. Hard to believe we'll be done in 6 months... Time is flying. It really goes quickly. Advice- get organized! You will need to be able to manage time very well. Don't worry if you work full time, have kids, etc. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't handle all of that plus nursing school. It's definitely do-able. If you can manage your time, survive on less sleep than you'd like, and stay somewhat organized, you've won most of the battle. You have to put the study time in, but the amount of time and how it looks is different for everyone in how they accomplish that and what works best for them.

While things can be somewhat disorganized for WEA students in terms of things like when the faculty gets schedules to us, etc., you also have to learn to roll with it sometimes. People complain, and yes, it's annoying at times, but really, it's not that bad. We just like to be organized and know what to expect! :)

You will become very close with your classmates. You will see them more than your family many weeks... Embrace it because you will be developing new life long friendships that will have seen you through a lot of stress and many celebrations- doing well on your exams, passing skills evaluations, taking care of your patients, etc.

Apply for scholarships! There are many out there and it really does help to defray costs. First semester is the most expensive, by far. After that, each semester seems to get less expensive

When will you find out if you've been accepted? I think I remember getting the acceptance call in the last week of March last year. Keep us posted and good luck! It's been an amazing journey so far.

Feel free to keep asking questions. I will respond as soon as I can. :)

Hey everyone,

I am currently finishing up my prerequisites and hoping to apply in fall for spring 2016. Just wanted to get some insight at how competitive the program is. If people wouldn't mind sharing the amount of points they had on theor application or GPA. When I apply I should have everything (ALL program requirements) finished except microbiology. I'm really hoping I get in the first time I apply.

I'm not sure if it's different for the traditional program, but when I applied to WEA last year, the dean told me that most accepted WEA students from the previous cohort had around 20 points, give or take. I think I had 20 points, and was finishing up A&P 2 in spring (so I didn't have those points at time of application in Feb. 2014). It was my first time applying.

Good luck!!

Hi everyone!!

I am anxiously waiting by the mailbox to see if I was accepted into the Fall Nursing Program or 2nd or 3rd choice for that matter. Thank you everyone for such wonderful tips and information. Such great advice makes me feel a little more ready and super excited. I read that organization is key and to find the best way you study. ***What study tips or techniques have you found worked for you. How do you tackle and retain so many chapters at once?***

Thanks!! :)
