Frederick Community College?

Does anyone know how difficult Medical Terminology is? Would I be crazy to add it to my other five classes this fall? I have a 2 year old, but I don't work.

I haven't taken it yet, but yes, that sounds quite crazy! Play with your baby instead! They offer it during the Jan term so I am thinking about taking it then.

I only do school work while he is asleep :) I may take it during the JTerm too. I still have to take group discussion so I might fit that in during the summer with A&P2 if I don't take it during the jterm.

I took Group Discussion last Jan term with Kathy Brooks. She was fantastic!!!! It was time consuming, but I was very glad to get the class done in two weeks. It was four hours a day, plus we had to meet with our group to discuss and plan our projects after class.

Well, if I had known how much time outside of class I was going to have to spend on group projects, I might not have attempted it. It ended up being okay, but I was not prepared going into it. It was worth it, though.

I took it from 9 am - 12:45 pm. They also offered a 1-4:45 and a 5-8:45 pm. There were two group projects, one where each group picked a chapter from the book to give a presentation on to the class (our group did a skit on "Roles in Groups", another did a game show, another did mini speeches, etc.) so that has to be planned and practiced. She really looked for equal participation.

The other project the groups did was coming up with an idea for a new business in Frederick and planning it. Planning a business sounds like a very time consuming undertaking, but that is the point of the group. Each person is assigned one aspect of it, researches it, and writes up something for the presentation (advertising, location, etc.) Every group in our class added a "commercial" to their presentation although it was not required. They were fun to watch.

Groups either came in early, like 8 am, and met before class, or stayed after class for however long they needed. You have to split up the work and assign something to each person that they are responsible for for your presentation.

There were two papers to write, one by yourself and one as a group (again, each person taking a section, one person had to combine each contribution to make it look like one continuous paper). The tests were not hard, she gives really good examples to follow along with the chapters to help you remember the info.

So, it really was a lot, but hey, it's for two little weeks and you're done with a whole semester. Plus, she made the class so enjoyable, I wished I could have had her for something else, too.

Does anyone know if Professor Mason will be teaching A&P1 this spring? Not all of the times for it this spring have professors listed but I am getting anxious about registering.

Oh really? I have heard good things about him on here and a student in my math class that had him for A&P2 said that he was great and really devoted all of his time to helping students. Maybe he has been having some personal issues or something.. Do you have any recommendations?

Well I have Rosebrock who has a reputation of being the hardest one. His tests/exams are no joke. They are a lot of application problems. But he's fair and he's good. I think that he does a good job at preparing you for nursing school because that's how it is in there from all that I have heard. Another good one is Frankenbarry. That's all I know first hand about. It depends on when you will be going too. I just talked to one student in Mason's class and that's what she said. To not go over muscles or be tested on it....well I think it's irresponsible. Muscle's are HUGE. We just finished them.

He gives a detailed outline on what is exactly going to be on the test which is helpful in a way I guess. We get an outline but it's not verbatim like his is.

I think he might be ok for AP2 but not 1 because the other professors are much more challenging.

I have Dr. Mason. We are doing muscles, but started that chapter later than planned because he had some back surgery. He is teaching BI 104 on T/Th nights this spring. So if you want him for BI 103, you would have to wait until Fall '11. His class fills up, though! I got in after students were dropped for non-payment.

We had Frankenberry one night for lecture (bones) when Dr. Mason was out. He was very clear and seemed like he would be a good one, too.

I get pretty stressed out about tests and quizzes, so I appreciate Dr. Mason's study guides that he posts on Bb very much.

Dr Rosebrock is GREAT! I did not have him for A&P, but he did come in to my class a few weeks ago as a guest lecturer for our immunity lecture. He did most of the physiology portion, our nursing instructor did the clinical parts. From what I understand, immunity is his "thing", and he made a very, VERY complex topic pretty straightforward and easy to understand.
