Current RN New Grad Starting Pay

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

Hi there, I wondering if some people could tell me the current starting pay for new grad RNs in Baltimore region hospitals. Also, I am hearing more and more about hospitals not hiring RNs with just an ADN, like Franklin Square. Does anyone know if there are exceptions to that? Such as being enrolled or planning to enroll in a RN-BSN program?

Specializes in Med/Surg.

You're gonna find a range of about $24 to $28 per hour. Unfortunately, most hospitals are requiring nurses to have a BSN. Some hospitals in the area are hiring nurses with an ADN. I know that Washington Hospital Center does. University of MD Balt/Wash in Glen Burnie hires ADN nurses as well. However, that could change before the next cycle of new grad programs start. If you're planning to obtain a BSN in the near future, that will be a plus. I would tell them I'm going to school for my BSN regardless. I believe the proposed deadline for most hospitals is the year 2020. Good Luck.....

I'm a new grad with an ADN as well. You can get a job without an ADN but it will probably be at less competitive places. I know st joseph hires with out bsn. I know that franklin square is bsn oriented , but at Union memorial , I found new graduate nurses with adn so it just varies. I would advise that you start looking to enroll in a bsn program so that you can become more competitive. I'm enrolling for the rn - bsn program for next year at Univeristy of Maryland.

Thanks for the info! I have not graduated from my ADN program yet, I will next August. I definitely plan on going straight into an RN-BSN program, but was curious about getting a job prior or while in the bridge program. Do you or anyone else know if getting a position as a CNA first helps with chances of getting a RN position and/or higher pay due to having some experience in the field?

yes it would, i highly recommend becoming a cna while in school will help with getting a job and networking especially if you are good worker. As far as pay , most hospitals in the baltimore area have a set pay for new graduate nurse , you will be seen as a new nurse regardless of cna experience.

Thanks for the advice! I have been applying everywhere for a CNA position. Hopefully, I will find one soon! It's been very difficult to obtain without any medical experience.

I also had difficulty getting a job at first but eventually found one. You can apply for either tech jobs or student nurse positions ( a student nurse position will be better because it will allow more flexibility with schedule since its usually prn). Your job description as a student nurse will vary from hospital to hospital, where have you been applying?

I was just hired as a new ADN grad in a Baltimore hospital (I won't say where publicly -- PM me for more detail). I will be getting $26 per hour with extra on weekends.
