CNA Training?

Does anyone know of any good CNA/GNA training programs in MD? I am dying to get into nursing and have finished my prereqs this past year at community college. I want to apply to a nursing school for next fall and I'm thinking of doing a GNA training program this summer so as not to waste time and to get healthcare experience. Right now I'm not working and would like to start with entry-level work now that I have more time. Are there any GNA programs anyone could recommend? And how easy or difficult is it to find a CNA or GNA job? I checked the mbon list of certified programs, but I'm not sure which to pick. I'm thinking of registering for a program with NurseOne Inc. in Lanham. It is a 4-week program. Has anyone heard of this program and do they prepare you well for the GNA exam?

Montgomery College has a good program that includes both in-class training, and clinical time at local LTC facilities. It's reasonably priced too, I believe. Personally, I've seen programs that are more expensive and don't have clinical elements to them - I was recently shoppping around for my daughter who thought she might want to do the course. I really think a clinical portion is important, both for your self confidence and proficiency, and for the fact that you might get a foot in the door at the facility for when you graduate. Best advice I could give is to do your homework. There are a lot of people out there who would like to take your money, but won't be there for you once you graduate. Yes I had heard of the MC courses. I'm sure the ones attached to a community college are legit. I think that class has already filled up though. I just don't o get ripped off.

You could also check with your local Red Cross chapter. I know the one in Baltimore has a program for about $900 that is six weeks long. There are some other fees not included in their tuition.

Have you considered taking an entry level job, like Transporter, at this time? The reason I say this is because after Foundations (semester 1), you can apply with the State and get your CNA license without any classes.
