    I did my Acute care rotation there and was not thrilled with their med/surg unit ( in fact I'd go as far to say that the unit I was on horrifed me)....however I LOVED their NICU and their occupational therapy units - the new place they created for occupational therapy is wonderful.

    They have a program where I could work 16 hrs. while in school and get paid for 40 + benefits as long as I agree to work for them for 1 yr. afterwards. I really don't know if I want to take that leap for fear I'd wind up on that med/surg floor....I know I have a LOT more research to do...but was just wondering if anyone has actually WORKED there.

    Wow!!! That's pretty good. I'm starting my first semester at Essex. In which semester would that opportunity be available to students?

    Why don't you start networking with the NICU and OT nurse managers to see if you could work there the first year? Or do you have to accept whatever HR offers you?

    As far as I know you just have to be past Fundamentals. I talked with the representative at Ethics Day and that is what she said.

    As for the actual postition I would take/ or have to take...I am not sure. I have a meeting with their HR dept next week to talk about some of these things. I'm even afraid to be placed on that one unit for the tech work ( which is what the 16 hrs/wk job is)....of course I would do it if I had to...but I really could not WAIT to get off that floor just after 6 weeks of clinical.

    Ok, I see. You're not worried so much about the required contracted year as you are about your tech placement. Oh gosh. I wouldn't think you would have a choice on that one, but ask anyway. I wish you luck. It sounds like a great opportunity.

    I know people that did that program there and enjoyed it. Although, I don't know any details about placement. It seems people either love or hate that hospital.

    Worked ER on and off for severval years and it is horrible. Understaffed and the management just sucks. Not professional comment but accurate. There is a reason for the 16 hour program. Do want you have to do but keep an eye on the ball.

    I had my meeting today with HR and I am probably not taking the job. It sounds like they put you where they need you....and I am not thrilled with that. I have another friend doing a similar program at Northwest and she loves it there...I think I will check it out.

    Now here's hoping I dont have to do ANOTHER clinical rotation for Med/Surg on that floor.

    St Agnes is also known as St Agony-- but i will keep this professional. I worked there briefly in the AICU and hated it but on the flip side their benefits are very good, and they do promote education ie CNA-RN and RN-BSN. I got a student loan repayment from them for joining as a new RN grad and when I resigned the nurse recruiter was absolutely gracious in offering me a resonable repayment plan.
