Hello all!!! I will be applying to UMB Baltimore campus in Feb for Fall 2010! I'm so excited for the current applicants I really hope you all get in! I have been following this thread and all the other ones for UMB for a while now and thought I should post.

Did you know that there is a BSN and CNL Open House on Saturday, Oct. 3 for prospective students? It starts around 9 am and lasts until 1pm or so. This is a really good event for all prospective BSN and CNL students. You will have presentations by the Office of Admissions, the Program Directors and there is a Student Panel and tours (and food!) I will be there representing the Shady Grove BSN program so if you attend, please stop by to say hello. RSVP on the school website or by calling 410 706-0501.

Thank you so much! I did know about the Open House I have already RSVP a seat. Thanks for the extra information i've been to the information session but we couldn't tour the campus at the time. I'm so excitied. I'm working on the last of my classes now. I'm starting my personal statement and I still have to take the NET.

Can I ask you a question? Do other UMB administrators surf this site? Just curious didn't know what the limits are for talking about the school...0if there are any? Thanks

I have no way of knowing if other administration people are surfing here - I think they certainly should and will suggest it. If I cannot or should not answer a question I will try to refer everyone to the right person. I think this is a fabulous way to get information and connect with folks in your same situation. One of our students who posts here regularly told me about it and I have checked it every day since then. Please know that I am not an Office of Admissions employee but I do mostly know how it works.

As each one is accepted, that spot on that campus is filled and they go to the next one. If they get to you and your campus is filled they will offer you the other one. There is no way of knowing which one will fill first but if you are worried about that you might want to hand carry your contract and your deposit to Baltimore. That is just a suggestion - if you can't do that I would call the Admissions Office and ask them what is the fastest way you can nail down your spot. Maybe they will accept a scan of your contract and check or take a credit card over the phone - but I don't know for sure.
Hi...I am interested in applying for the BSN program at UMB for the Fall 2010 semester. I have 3.38 GPA in the sciences and a 3.36 GPA overall in all the pre-requisites listed on the sheet. I have a 78 overall score on the NET with a 67 in Reading and 88 in Math. I also have a previous bachelor's degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. I will have all pre-requisites done at the time of application except ENGL 102 . My question is: will I have any chance of getting in? Generally, what is the average GPA of your matriculating students? UMB is my first choice but I'm nervous because my grades aren't exactly stellar. How much weight does the admissions office put on GPA. Is there anything else I can do in the mean time to improve my application. Any advice would be appreciated!! Thanks!

Your entire application portfolio will be reviewed - GPA is important, especially the science GPA - but everything is important. You need a killer essay and health care experience, volunteer or paid, is highly regarded. Definitely attend either the Open House in Baltimore for BSN on October 3 (see the website for details) or an Information Session before submitting your application. The average GPA differs for every applicant group and no one can predict it. UMD is one of the best schools of nursing in the country as well as one of the cheapest so it is always competitive - but exactly how much for any given entry semester is unknowable. I wish I could tell you what your chances are but nobody (human at least) can do that. Best of luck and if you don't get in for fall, try again for spring.

Yup it means they have reviewed your transcripts and other forms and everything is ready to be put in front of the committee for the decision to be made.

Okay, I'm nervous like some others online here, if you haven't been updated to committee ready by now and all your materials were sent in by sept 1st and recieved, then does that mean that your packet won't get reviewed? This overall GPA thing is confusing, I thought it was a 3.0 in the required classes for the school of nursing, not overall college classes, if we sign up for the open house this Saturday could we sit down with someone to go over our packet and explain what they are counting as an overall GPA, or if we will even get reviewed?
