If you are near the DC Metro area the pay is anywhere from 10-14 an hour. If you are that close though I would jump the border to VA where the pay tends to be higher.

Thanks!
Hi, I think after your first semester in a nursing program you can just pay for your CNA license, at least that was how it worked for us if we wanted it. Community Colleges also have CNA courses. CCBC has one. Good luck.

At UMMC you get paid $15 an hour as a student nurse/PCT.

Hi, I was also interested in this. I still have about 1 year left to finish my bachelor's degree/pre-reqs and I was thinking about maybe taking a CNA class this summer so that I can work part time next year and get my feet a little wet before I apply to nursing school.

I thought that CCBC had a CNA program, but while searching their website I could not find any information about it. Do they have one? What other community colleges/facilities offer CNA classes in the Baltimore area? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I am a tech at GBMC. I'm also a junior year nursing student. When I started working there almost 4 years ago the starting pay for techs/nursing students was $10.50 an hour. Now I believe it's between $11.50 - $12 an hour. I just want to let you know that without patient care experience you can't expect to start off making a lot of money. When I finished the CNA/GNA course I was working in a nursing home making $8 an hour.

Hello...i really want to get into gbmc. How hard is it? how did you get the student nurse position? I have left several messages with HR and emailed them also, but no one ever gets back with me. I am going there tomorrow to try to get in to talk to someone about a student nurse position or a cna. I am an lpn but need to take a refresher course. i want to work now and during the class. as i look and talk to people i think itwill be harder to get a job than i though. i also plan on taking the lpn-rn classes as soon as i am allowd. i have been a stay at home mom with my 2 children since 2002, so i am ready to go back to work. thanks!

Student nurse jobs are far and few between to come by, I think. I'm a student nurse at GBMC and have been in the position since my second semester (out of 4) of nursing classes. Each unit is allowed to have up to 3 nursing students but only one can work at a time and they function mostly as techs. Most people I know that work there as students stay there until they're done with nursing school, so the number of potential positions depends on how many students graduate or transfer out of the position.

My experience with HR has been spotty but once you actually get in touch with someone it tends to work out.

well, i finally just went in to hr..you know what they told me? "there are the computers, all the jobs are posted there." that is it..they wouldnt talk to me or anything! i am really getting bummed...i have an inactive lpn license. i am taking the refresher starting in may and really wanted to work there as a tech or something while i am in school. they just keep telling me on the website (auto response) "we found someone with more experience". i feel like no one is going to hire me b/c i decided to stay home with my kids for 6 years!

Dolcebellaluna---Could you share with me what your experience at Sheppard Pratt was like? I am currently looking into a position as a "mental health worker" but am unclear on exactly what the job entails. I am also wondering about the orientation process as I only have one full free week off between now and graduation (end of July). Thank you!
