To be honest, I think I'd prefer a female nurse... not sure why. But I suppose when it comes down to it, it doesn't really matter as long as they are competent. Having never been a patient (knock on wood), other than short ER visit, it's hard to say.

With 18 operation scars on my legs... Male or female? I couldn't care less; just an excellent nurse will do for me.

I had a male nurse appear during my first childs delivery, I have to admit it took me by surprise but once I realized that he was just as professional as the other females, I totally went with it. He held my leg and was really nice. My mom and hubby had the other one. I was in the navy at the time and now I realize that quality has a lot more to do with it than gender. Male or Female, just know what you are doing, be good at it and be NICE! My

I work as a tech, and a couple of times younger male patients have requested that I come in and help clean them instead of their female nurse. Never had a female patient refuse assistance because I have a Y chromosome.

For the most part I don't care what the gender of my nurse, doctor or any other healthcare professional is but I will say, as a male, if I was having a catheter inserted or something like that I would prefer a male nurse. I haven't had to be hospitalized for any length of time, just some pretty far out ER visits (swallowing a retainer and an allergic reaction) so I haven't had experience this situation yet *knock on wood*. I also don't have any children yet but I would ask my child if they want a certain doctor or nurse doing a procedure. I realize that for some things no kid will ever want them to happen but if my son or daughter is more comfortable with a certain doctor or nurse (no matter what the gender is) then that will be who does the procedure.

It is my hope that I will be able to have male nurses and P.C.'s and techs. if the need arises....but hospitals near me have a hard time getting and keeping enough nurses period...let alone finding male nurses who seem to be very scarce.

I wouldn't care either way as long as they get the job done.

I'm a male and I perfer male doctors and nurses. It seems that I have a complex with thinking that a female nures or doctor gives a motherly impact on the situation. And when I think of my mother I think of someone over reacting on the situation. Male healthcare professionals always have a more laidback approach to the situation which always makes me feel more comfortable.
