What kind of shoes to wear with white scrubs?

hey all,

i'll be starting nursing school this august and we are required to wear all white, and of course, white shoes. i'm a darker colored clothing type of dude and i especially don't wear white shoes, so i'm

oh, and i WILL NOT wear running shoes. i share the same reaction ryan gosling has to them in crazy stupid love:

what do you all wear?

Buy something classy that you can wear outside of school eg when you go to the clubs/ on dates.

I disagree with this statement, at a hospital you are in a very germ filled/dirty environment. Leave the shoes at the door so to speak. Work shoes should be just that and nothing else.

So true! Someone two cohorts ahead of me tracked C. diff into their house and their dog got sick.

Hey guys, I'm really glad that you're getting the shoe-thing sorted out. But on behalf of clinical instructors everywhere, I have another request. Please keep in mind that there are some issues with wearing white pants that you may not be familiar with... if they have not been part of your wardrobe before. It should be obvious that commando is not an option but based on my own experience with students, it has not been. Re underwear: Beige or 'skin toned' is best because no matter what you do, they are going to show through. Less contrast between your own skin color and the undies means less 'show through'. Avoid other colors or prints (!) at all costs. Tighty whities or daring micro-anything is absolutely out of the question...... pulheeeze. Or better yet, just consult with a trusted female in the family for additional guidance....

Happy clinicals everyone!

Here is a link for every all white shoe on Eastbay. I'm debating between Nike Shox Deliver, Air-Max 90, or Aasics Gel Foundation Walker. As much as I would like to be styling for clinicals, I want to make sure that my feet are comfortable. I work 12 hour shifts as a tech and wear low top hiking boots that I bought for a trip to Europe in the winter, not stylish but very comfortable.

Great advice! I'm sooo glad you brought this up! I've been wondering how exactly wearing white bottoms was going to work out during my clinicals. Thanks man!

Beige or 'skin toned' is best because no matter what you do, they are going to show through. Less contrast between your own skin color and the undies means less 'show through'.

Emphasis on the "skin-toned" part. A couple decades ago, I had an instructor INSIST that white was best, regardless of our skin-tone. No amount of discussion could convince her that white was not best for anyone, much less for my dark-skinned classmates who would have been more modestly dressed in bronze or even black would have been similar in contrast as white against my light skin.

They sell skin-toned underwear for men? I have never seen any of this kind in my lifetime...lol

Wow, thanks for this! I was planning on all white boxers so thanks for the save. White is the worst color for clothing!

Well - if you go the white boxer route you won't be alone, 'cause that's what I do. That said - if you're a briefs kinda guy I'd +1 the recommendation to get briefs that are as close to your normal skin tone as you can get. While I'm at work I tend to look like I'm wearing shorts under my scrubs, but generally speaking most people don't care too much, so long as you're not wearing anything TOO showy. Case in point - after clinicals (I'm a CNA, BTW) the ladies all decided as a show of solidarity/protest against the nurse educator junta to wear red panties under their scrubs. Made for a colorful last few days of class!

Far as footwear - I wear New Balance cross-trainers, so can't help you much there. In my case, being a Type II diabetic I HAVE to have proper footwear, and New Balance is at the top of the list for me 'cause they make their shoes wide enough to fit my duck feet.

I bought 2 pairs of Brooks Addiction Walker. All-White one is for clinical in hospital (white scrubs.) Black one is for school (Dark Blue Navy Scrubs). I LOVE IT !!!
