The look!!!

When I tell people that I am going into nursing I get the LOOK! Then they ask "does your partner support you" and I look them in the eye and say, yes my wife loves the idea. They are shocked that a straight guy would go into nursing.

Very small minds in this worlds!!!!!:uhoh3:

Any one else get the LOOK???

i'm figuring about 2 years of handling patients is enough to have an understanding of patient care. at the excelsior cpne's i met 4 long term lpn's testing to become rn's. it amazes me to meet someone who's been directly taking care of patients for 10 years, and saying "that's all i want to do". all of them passed the exams, and now they're rn's. 2 were guys. if you really like it, you'll do well at it.

becoming specialty certified where you can cherry pick a few shifts is also a good insurance policy. if it gets down to it, you can simply work enough hours and make very decent $. i have a friend whose wife made $93k working agency last year... and she never left hoome for even one night.

Congrats on passing NCLEX!

thanks. it's the beginning of my new career and the end of a long road through school :)

still got another 2 years of mba chool, but a lot less is on the line, and becoming an rn is much harder for me than business school. i'd be lying if i said i wasn't deleriously happy to have this over with.

i get the look quite often. im 22 and in nursing school and alot of my friends gave me a hard time at first. but when the realized all that it entails and the great benefits they actually started looking into it. plus, almost all of my study groups are full of good looking women!

ROFLOL at this one. I'm an "out" proud gay man, and built most of my own house, do my own carpentry, fix and restore my own cars, drove a self-restored '75 Dodge truck and '63 Impala to school and work, and am generally "butch as hell" as I've been described by my female friends in nrsg school. Funny thing is,,,, the "gay guy wants to be a nurse" stereotype fits to a point for me, but even tho I'm gay and out AND a nurse, I don't fit the gay stereotype!

I've actually very seldom gotten "the look", but I have gotten hit on by all the pretty single girls I went to school with, and when I explained to them I had a male significant other and wasn't interested, they all wanted to hit the gay bar with me on Friday nights! Still have weekly lunches with them!

Roll with it dude, males in nursing are breaking all kinds of stereotypes, and old opinions die hard, but they WILL die sooner or later as more men realize the satisfaction a nursing career provides.
