Surfung around sure finds some interesting stuff lately. So I am about to begin nursing classes in the fall. Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am 32 and live in NC. I hold a BA in psychology and currently work in the substance abuse and chemical dependency field. I am going to continue working as long as I can while in school. Hopefully that won't prove to be too difficult. I held onto my fulltime job and went to classes fulltime the last time I returned to school so...

Anyway.. Hi and hope to talk with some of you guys soon. Nice to know there's a forum for guys out here....

There is about 6 of us out of about 45 students, but no guys have been dropped yet. I wonder why that is? Are we smarter or do we just feel we have something to prove? It is different though being outnumbered by women sll the time. I have learned, all they do is gossip.

Hey man i just graduated from nursing school and let me tell you that you are 100% right when you say that all wommen do is gossip. They are all so cought up in drama. Always taking about someone else in the class or picking on someone. I come to hate all of my nursing students in a class of 12 except for 3. Which by the way those three were all guys the rest you can guess.

I'm not in a program yet...on a wailtlist (at 5 schools). But doing my prereq's and nervious that I've lost my mind.

I'm comforted by the fact that there are so many guys on here making a career switch from something less rewarding, but more lucrative. Almost daily i'm barraged with comments from my friends asking "Why."

Looks like the percentages are the same in NZ. I'm one of 8 in a class of 80 for a BN programme. Usually I'm the only guy in my lab or tutorial.

    Hey mingez,
I know the feeling. I've trying to get into the nursing program here in Reno, NV for over a year. Wasn't able to get into fast track because of accredidation issues with a previous school. I was just accepted here at TMCC for the fall start. Now i'm just sweating over getting all the necessary immunizations, my CPR Recertification, and costs down. Kinda stressful. Looking forward to it. Good luck on trying to get in.

Hello all. I am 21 years old and am starting the BSN program in 3 weeks. In my class, about 20/200 are guys. They say its usually 10%. I hope to go to grad school after this. Good luck to all.

To those "Why" `s, I simply respond with "Why not ? "

I do have high hopes for the future. I am 46 years old and have been a factory rat my whole adult life. This is something very new to me but I am very eager to get it started. My first semester begins Aug. 22.
One of my classmates is a grandmother twice over and she loves being a nurse.

She says it beats "being an accountant and number cruncher for over 20 years"
