Hey guys... I'll be starting the accelerated BSN curriculum at Johns Hopkins this coming June, 2005. I'm 48, and leaving the practice of law after 22 years. If anyone else will be in Baltimore this summer, give a shout out.

A 12 yr experience lawyer buddy of mine was starting pre-reqs for nursing, but after more than a year of searching landed a job from Honeywell, a company that previously laid him off.

I'm a 15 yr experienced electrical engineer starting an accelerated BSN on Jan 5. The course load looks brutal.

Kabin, where will you be attending school? I think if you can handle a course in thermodynamics, you can handle pharmacology and pathophysiology.

It's too bad your friend didn't follow through with nursing. Law practice may pay well in some quarters, but the work really isn't anything more than the redistribution of wealth. I need something more fulfilling.

I'll be attending Grand Canyon University. I hoping the same thing about the course load, as the pre-reqs haven't been too bad. It's a 18 month, three semester program that averages 26 semester hours per semester. I spoke to a regular BSN student there and she said the accelerated program cuts a few assignments out.

At one point, my lawyer friend was pulling in over $200k as a corporate counsel and then the biz went belly up and he had to sell the house and toys. It crushed his ego, but living off a dwindling 401k cleared his head for a little while. Now he's talking about buying all the toys again.

How many men are in your nursing class?

Out of our class of 51 (started out with 60), we only have 3. One is active duty AF, another a paramedic, and the youngest is a first-career youngster.
