Count another guy in the pack!

Talking about major career moves - I work in IT now and am on the heels of a huge jump into the "ominous marshmallow uniform" of a student nurse.

I'm still not up on some of the abbreviations and such, but I am starting an ASN program in about 3 weeks.

I was talking to a CC department head about prereqs and he said in the last month he spoke to 3 engineers/software developers that were going into nursing. He said there must be something going on here!

    For me its two things:

    1. I want to do something more meaningful.

    2. I want to do something with potential to grow and technical(mental) in nature.

Yes, point well taken. One needs to have the proper mindset from the get-go, to be a successful nurse.

After engineering, I knew I wanted a more noble profession that helped people. I decided to complete the state high school math teacher certification. But one never knows how it will be until those classroom reigns are grabbed. Making a long story short, I quickly knew there was a better career suited for me.

Coincidently, one of the more senior math teachers was planning to convert to nursing also.

Maybe we can hear from a few teachers!

Well, at least you have a skill like that where you can have pretty flexible scheduling options/extra income potential to work around school.

What's stopping you? Do they only offer it at certain times, or can you schedule it any time you want?

I was at the GM dealer waiting room this morning and a few customers broke out in conversation. One lady noted that an older man (55-60yrs age) had a physiology book opened. They started up a conversation. He was cramming for a final in 2nd sem physiology, and was just accepted into a nursing program. She mentioned that was her favorite class.

    That made my day!
