I was wondering how many of you guys out there, faced the same problem I have. Females whining about nearly almost everything?? I thought living with my mom and lil sister for 19 years, and my blonde girlfriend were bad, It makes it seem like heaven compared to school, also whats with those personally invasive questions? I have resorted to bringing an ipod to school, and listenin to music, so I don't have to be brought down and potentially scared by their whining and ranting, and seemingly its more with the older people (im only 20..so I mean like 30 yr old females and stuff) I get along great with the young chicks. I just told one, to quit asking me these questions, and to stop treating me like a kid (i have the highest gpa in the class) and she got all up in arms and offended...What did I do to deserve this? I think im gona prolly turn into either an avon sales man after nursing school, or a sheep lover...im only messing. But do any of you fellah's know what I mean?

Well first off bro it seems to me you have a negative attitude. I do understand there is whining, the key is to stay low dont put yourself outthere. Im only 21 and i got along with the older women much better then the young "chicks". Just FYI Highest GPA does not make you a better Nurse, help when you can and it will all go much smoother.

I'm worried about how you are going t be able to handle patients whining and things of that nature if you cannot handle it at school, and also the sheep joke was just plain out unnecessary for these boards, not even funny

yea I do help out, i always form study groups and let people copy my notes, it's just the whole "I think you guys are too young..." stuff...only four people in my class are under the age of 30, and I'm not married nor do I have kids..and these people think im like their kid because they have kids my age...it's sucha culture shock to be 20 and thrown into all of this. As for having the high gpa, I never made it known to them, i just posted it here to make the fact that I am competent known, and I know when we are done the whole grade thing will be practically meaningless, except for furthering our education. Furthermore the whining is not like what a patient would do, it's more about instructors, clinical rotations, and the like..they get beaten before they start with the typical female gossip "i heard they did this to make you not do this" I don't care what other people said negatively before, I'm just goin in there to do it, as best as I can, and have a rewarding job, I don't care for the horror stories of last semesters students

Is there a point to all this?

Granted, you may have had a bad day - why, a bad semester so far.

But that doesn't make generalised comments about everyone from females, mothers, sisters, blondes and older adults any more justified.

Let's focus on solving an issue - if there is one. Else lets move on - minus the snark.

I got along very well with the females in my class. Nursing school was tough and demanding and we needed each other. It doesn't come easy for everyone as it does you.

Sooner or later they will quit talking to you if you continually put them off. So keep putting them off as you did this one woman. (They are women, not chicks). However, they will still continue to whine and complain around you, because that's just what people (males included) do. So the iPod is probably not a bad idea.

Let me also say the average age of nurses once you get out of school is around 40something, so you might run into problems if all you can get along with are the young ones.

First things first, hoss...you gotta chill out. In just about any program where you spend as much time together as nursing, you're going to be subject to what you describe above. Your youth prevents you from seeing the upside of the situation.

For cryin' out loud, you will NEVER again in your life have more women listen/talk/ pay attention to you as you have right now. Make the most of it. Now we know that you can't get along with everyone but these are going to not only be possible future coworkers - they could also end up being your friends...and that's something you'll never have too many of.

So friggin' what if you're as young as their children??? Ever think it's possible that they're proud of you for choosing such a profession as a guy??

They find you interesting...there's nothing bad about that.

Now go to class and be nice.;)

Never intended to strike any chords, but I take it I struck quite a few. Yes I was wrong for calling them chicks, and not being a smart butt at all but all of what you guys said is absolutely right, I should be supportive of the others because I know that they would support me. Yes I did have a bad day, a horrible one at that, but to be honest, I'm glad the 4 of you guys did make me see where I was wrong (especially with that sheep joke) now that I think of it, and actually read what I said instead of rambling, that was pretty stupid. In all seriousness Thanks and I hope nobody was really offended here at all. If so you have my apploigies.

Nice of you to followup Irwin.

There is a lot of negativity in nursing school because of the stress. Good luck.

Thumbs up to you bro! Im glad you had time to cool down and think about it. Man i was in the same boat as you, you just need to take things in stride. Yes people look at us different because where "younger" & male on top of that, however i recieved alot of praise from my classmates for becoming part of such a wonderful career and at such a early age.

Speaking of whining... hmmmm....

If I may post up a few comments.

This OP titled the Thread ... Vent. So, he just wants to vent. Now, he is very, very young. Yet, his heart is into nursing & patient care. Let us help him realize that the female nurses [20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60 yr olds] are in the majority. Communication is the key to the universe for the male nurse in the art of survival among our female nurse colleagues.

Okay, I'll close now & read on. ;)
