on-line nursing school

I wold like to know about this as well. I have heard of Excelsior from a friend, but I haven't researched it because I figured nursing was something learned mostly through practice rather than theory. I could be wrong, so I want to know as well

Not sure where you live, but before doing Excelsior's program, you might want to make sure that the program is accepted by your state's Board of Nursing. I BELIEVE (but do not know for a fact) that California's BON doesn't accept Excelsior's degree. I know that Ohio's BON has discussed the topic a number of times, so it's something to consider.

Definitely check with your State Board of Nursing. Many states will allow graduates of purely online nursing programs from sitting for NCLEX.

Another option is to look at night or weekend programs close to home. Here in Virginia, there is a second degree BSN for working adults with classes on Saturdays and 2 nights a week. Other ASN programs are structured in the same way (aimed primarily at paramedics/EMTs, surgical techs, and CNAs who must work fulltime while pursuing RN study).

Chances are that these programs close to home will also be a lot less expensive than the online, for-profit institutions.
