I lol at the stud who quit because he had to empty a bedpan...

Nursing Students Male Students

Published

Had to share...there are (were) 4 guys in my class of 30. We have already had 10 people drop out after they found out exactly how much was involved with class and clinicals.

If that wasn't bad enough, within an hour of starting rounds last night, we had this alpha male go squeamish. Now try to imagine the stereotypical stud muffin...perfect hair, chiseled face, probably works out like it's a religion, basically a babe magnet...ok so this guy is standing there bedside with this LOL, and she made quite the BM mess in her bed. There was a very nicely filled bedpan sitting on the bed, and this guy is standing there looking like he was going to hock up a spleen. :barf01:

He absolutely refused to touch said bedpan, and in fact decided right then and there to quit the program. I didn't even bother to hide my amusement, actually I rubbed it in as much as I could before he walked out the door. Ain't I a stinker?

I am pretty sure he was only in nursing school because he believed all the nurse Mediao. Ahh, one less moron, thank you nursing gods.

Wow, do I have to look forward to this kind of judging because I tan, workout and care about my appearance?!? I can assure you that I did not want to go into nursing because I "believed the Mediao".

To be honest, I'm a little nervous how ill react to the first bedpan I have to clean. I'm confident that ill make it through it, but I've never done it so who knows. If I do struggle though, I hope people aren't laughing.

I don't think anybody goes into nursing to clean up **. I didn't. There's nothing wrong with that. I accept it as part of the job and I do what I need to do. Im not planning on being in a specialty that requires doing this so no...I am not becoming a nurse to clean up messes all day. Did anyone here? No, I didn't think so. You take the bad with the good. The trend on these sites seem to be that if someone comments on something that doesn't "go with the flow" they get lynched. Threads are boring when everyone has the same exact opinion and state the same exact comment the post before them stated. Lot's of inferiority complexes. Try explaining the realities to the person to give a clear picture of what they are getting into. Lastly, when one person starts busting chops, it doesn't mean that everyone has to jump on that band wagon basically repeat what was initially said. Grow a spine people. Alpha Male? Insecure much?

rry

Do not worry. For most people when you see how much better and more dignified the patient will feel and also how you are saving them from horrible skin breakdown and infection that makes it tolerable.

Oh geez, get off your high horses people and laugh a little. That was funny! If you don't think it was, you take yourself entirely too seriously. Thanks OP, made me laugh.

A guy spends two years of his life on pre-reqs. Thousands of dollars on classes. Countless hours of studying and dreaming of being a nurse. He tells his friends, family, co-workers and neighbors how he's going to be a nurse. He gets into nursing school. He and everyone is so proud of him. THEN he has to drop out because he can't handle something. Yeah....you're right, that's hilarious.

What it means it that HE never thought it through. You mean to tell me that this guy "spends two years of his life on pre-reqs. Thousands of dollars on classes. Countless hours of studying and dreaming of being a nurse. He tells his friends, family, co-workers and neighbors how he's going to be a nurse. He gets into nursing school."...and he never once gave any thought to the fact that there might be poo involved? He never had the foresight to shadow a nurse to see if it was right for him BEFORE he did all the things you mentioned above? It never crossed his mind to become a CNA and work in the medical field to make sure it was what he wanted to do and that he could handle it BEFORE doing all the things you mentioned above? Sounds to me like he was a victim of his own poor planning, and I find that ironic and amusing. He is EXACTLY the type of person I don't want to work with in the future, so I'm glad he's out. A nurse that can't handle poo is no nurse at all. All those things you mentioned above were so important to HIM that he turned and ran, giving it all up in seconds after years of work. Well, I assure you he never wanted it to begin with. If he had, he would have gutted it out and worked through it. As it turns out, he was a quitter. His investment in dollars, time, etc. means exactly as much to me as it meant to him...and that is zero. If it HAD meant something to him, he would have gritted his teeth and got through it. End of story. With time and perserverence you can get used to absolutely anything. He did not perservere, he did not even try. He turned and ran throwing it all away, thus proving he never wanted it. Why should I or anyone care if he doesn't?

Irony is funny, it made me laugh. I don't feel bad about it, and I'll probably go back and read it and laugh again. You don't find it funny. Cool. Don't go back and read it again.

You assume the worst in this guy despite knowing nothing about him. You find amusement in his failure. Because you and many others could handle the poo, but this guy couldn't, he's weak or didn't really want to be a nurse? Some times people just can't handle certain things. Shoulda/coulda/woulda been a CNA first or shadowed a nurse, but he didn't. I doubt most people take the time or effort to do that before nursing school. Doesn't mean I don't desperately want to be a nurse...

I start nursing school in a couple weeks. I guess I should try and convince a friend to S themselves just to see if I can handle it.

Well look how strong and cool you are OP, you sure showed the guy who you know nothing about but his physical appearance. We can all only hope to be as empathetic and non judgmental as you

People have breaking points and the poo was his. He gave it a try and it was not for him. Grow up and get off your high horse

How is this irony? How is this situation defined as "something that happened in the opposite way of expectation?"

And I'm glad you don't want to work with the guy. Instead, you can work with OP -- who gets his jollies off when people fail at their life plans just because a dude benches more than him. :-\

Yesss just what I needed right now! Alright so I guess this gives me hope.

He would have ran away screaming if it was C-diff lol, you have to pay your dues, I despise tools like that they don't belong in the nursing club!!!!

I'm actually coming around on this. One less chiseled, great looking guy to compete with for the good looking female RN's.
