May I propose. for consideration, the potential "other side"?

My son and step son were both stationed in HI. There is a *HUGE* animosity issue over there with the whites....ie: "Why don't you go back to the Mainland?!" Is it possible that this manager is encouraging "minority" hiring?

Too often traditional minorities attempt to "blame" racism for issues instead of searching for a genuine cause. I hear about so much "discrimination" accusations in states like Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi....YET, the African Americans are not only the majority of the population, they also hold the majority of the political positions!

I am not saying that is isn't racism.....I am saying there may be an entirely different decision making process that you are unaware of.

It sounds like she might've known the females she hired.

The OP *is* a minority.

LA has a population of 2/1 whites to blacks.

It's not so much about race in Hawaii. It's family ties, who you know, where you went to high school, who owes what favors where, ... It happens that a lot of these considerations occur within groups dominated by one racial group or another...in my experience, race is seldom the deciding factor. Can you get to know the party hiring through social channels? Are you guys locals?

Lightbulb Re: ER nurse manager racist/sexist?
Hello,

I have never been to Hawaii, but my BFF is in the army in Hawaii and has been very open that there is racism in Hawaii towards Americans (specifically Afr.Amer. & Cauc. Amer.). She has said that ppl there are very rude and openly disrespectful to her bc she is an (Afr.) American. She has been called the "N" Word, and her Cauc. friends have even been called the "C" Word. This ER nurse is obviously living in Hawaii and in the minority, I am sure she has experienced some of this and realizes her position. I am not saying her decisions are right, but she may not be a racist/sexist she may just be looking out for her own ppl bc she knows that she (cauc. female) may have difficulty finding a job bc of the racism in Hawaii, most minorities in higher positions have a tendency to look after their own, bc @ times thats all u have, whether it b a conscious/ unconscious thing it happens. I understand ur frustration, but thats the way it is & sometimes it's the only way to survive in this world for minority ppl. Best of Luck
