I am a black male nurse and I graduated on May 2008. I am currently a Officer in the United States Navy.

Check your state board of nursing website, they may have the statistics. Here in Texas the number of black nurses is lower among the younger generation, higher in the 40s (then again, the median age IS 40something for a nurse in Texas).

I am one..I have a special pride to my achievement @ 22yo...There are roughly 2.6 million american licensed RNs and of those RNs only 4.9% are Black & only 5.4% are men.

The average age of a RN is 45.2years old & only 9.1% of all RNs are under the age of 30.

I feel like I'm a part of some chosen fraternity by God, Lol! For the most part, I try to remain humble and never tell anyone....

Here's an interesting side note: Black and Asian/Pacific Islander nurses are more likely than all other nurses to have at least baccalaureate preparation
