Register Today!- Sep 16, '08 by FireM3dic432I'm amazed how many health care professionals are out of shape. If nurses and doctor's don't care enough about their own health enough to go to the gym or run 10 mile twice a week and eat healthy foods, then how much do they really care about other people's health? Am I about to get pounced on?[/quote]
Because taking care of people is their job and they get paid to do it. Taking care of themselves is not their job and they dont get paid for it. - Sep 16, '08 by CdaleJekyllI think we're on to something. Offering pay bonuses could encourage many more people to get in shape. The costs would be offset by savings in employee health plans and added productivity.
A cheaper solution still would be to install mirrors all throughout the building!:chuckle
- Sep 16, '08 by FireM3dic432My fire department had a health and wellness program, and bought 5 memberships to a gym. So 5 people could work out at a time for free from the fire department, we also got to work out on duty. We just placed ourselves "oos" during that time and went back into service if there were ambulances/engines in service.
I do believe that staying in shape will prevent a lot of injuries. Too often I hear "my lower back is sore". Most back injuries can be prevented by occasionally working out your lower back and abdominal muscles. Back injuries is also the most common injury, workers comp also loves to fight it (and any other injuries sustained "on-duty"). Also the "health and wellness program" at my work saved $$ in workers comp.
Mirrors would be great so I can walk by and check out the striations in my deltoids while I flex. :roll - Sep 16, '08 by FireM3dic432Quote from TurtleherderPay bonuses to anyone who can bench press their own weight x10!!I think we're on to something. I can beck 340, squat 400, skull crush 160, curl 120.I've been doing some powerlifting the past couple years got all my weight up pretty good. i'm 5'6'' 145lbs got my bench up to 275 deadlift up to 450 and squat up to 315 (my weak point) so i'm pretty happy with it. anyone else do anything?
I always joke they can fire the lift team when they hire me. - Sep 27, '08 by Crossfit SRNA2bQuote from nursinguy6'4" 300, your a big dude. Your numbers are solid, but not great for your size, but what a lot of people don't realize is natural strength is more important (in a fight or lifting random objects) than bench numbers.I'M 6'4 and 300 lbs with 19 inch arms. I'm like 5'8" 175, and bench around 330-365, power clean 265, and squat about 405, but i'm sure you would win in a pushing match.
But yea, i played football forever so i have always been lifting. I used to be 190, but since i no longer need to eat like a horse for football, i lost some weight to get more defined. Plus 190 is too big for 5'8".
Any1 do crossfit? thats what i've been on for the last yr. its a great program. - Sep 27, '08 by nursinguyQuote from logant2k4I have 24 inch wide shoulders, alot of my weight is my extra large bone structure.6'4" 300, your a big dude.
