U.S.A. Maine

Hey everyone, I'm looking at relocating to Maine later this year but don't know too much about the different towns, other than a little bit about Portland. I'd appreciate it if anyone out there can give me any info at all about different towns, hospitals, cost of living, etc. Thanks in advance!

Maine is a big state where are you relocating?

No where in particular, just somewhere in the state. We love the coast, but would consider just about anywhere. As long as it's safe, with a decent hospital and cost of living, it's an option. We just don't know where to start.

Perhaps you can start here http://www.maine.gov/index.html

Maine Medical Ctr. in Portland is an excellent hospital, with a very good reputation. Nice towns around the area--Scarboro, Cape Elizabeth, Gorham, Saco, Old Orchard, etc. Beautiful area of Maine and near the ocean. Cost of living is increasing, especially in Coastal/Southern Maine. Good luck to you, and enjoy Maine

Thanks for the response! I've heard good things about that hospital and Portland. People say it's a pretty cool place. I'm looking at small towns, too. Someone also mentioned Presque Isle. I'd like to live in some small town on the coast, but I bet that's pretty expensive. I'm looking forward to going out there. Thanks again! :)

I currently live in Bangor, Maine (which is one of the "big" cities for Maine). You mentioned Presque Isle, which I have also lived. When you get into northern Maine(called Aroostook County) like Presque Isle you will find that it is a different culture. Many people are from Canada and they are about the nicest people you will ever find. However, Presque Isle is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. If you want a small town by the coast with a good cost of living, check out the Machias/Lubec area. Camden/Rockport is also VERY nice but you pay for it. Maine is a very spread out state and if you are looking to get away from the big cities, it is the place for you. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I really appreciate your response!

I am looking to get away from the rat-race, and thought Maine would be a good choice. And of course, I love the coast. Thanks for the suggestions. :)
