Hi guys,
I will most likely be headed to Worcester GEP (FNP) in the fall as well. I only heard from them last week! I have deposits down at a few other places, but the tuition of UMass is very appealing as I am looking to do community health and have a house/kids sometime soon..

Does anybody want to share thoughts on why they chose UMass? Background? I'll be 28 in July, I went to Dartmouth undergrad (English major), and I have been doing case management for homeless populations for about five years in Brooklyn and Boston. I am engaged and will most likely be commuting from the Newton area. I have a sneaking suspicion I might be one of the older/est people in our program!

I look forward to meeting you guys. Thanks for posting (Natasha, I'm glad your visit went well!)

Also - any thoughts on the buzz that all NPs will have to have their doctorates by 2015?? I asked Jean Boucher and Robin Klar when I was out there about it, and they said they are gearing up to meet the demand that graduates of the GEP will pose. Yikes..

Hi folks,
Thanks for sharing info. Congrats Natasha on your pregnancy! Thats very exciting.
A little bit about me...
I'm 25, married, I did my undergrad at Smith and majored in History. I've been working in college admissions for three years, working mostly with international and transfer students. Its funny because the school I work at has a nursing program and I spend most of my day advising students interested in transferring into nursing.

I'm considering both the UMASS Accelerated BSN and the UMASS GEP programs. I can't find information on the cost of the Accelerated BSN in Amherst. Can anyone help?

Hi,
I will be starting the GEP program this August as well. I'm 36, have 3 little girls and have worked in finance for years- Fidelity in Marlboro for the last 5. I chose Adult Primary Care as my specialty and am hoping to focus on womens issues or possibly dermatology.
I moved in with my mother in Wellesley to save $ but am still nervous about taking on debt - I will feel better once we get more material on the particulars of the program. Does anyone have any idea how many GEP students there will be in all? I look forward to meeting/studying/working with everyone!

Hi All,

I wanted to let you know -- given this morning's tuition hike, and somewhat confusingly worded email -- I emailed them for year 2&3 costs.

This is for Family NP (which is the priciest - more coursework/clinical) with all tuition and fees included, according to today's fee schedule.

Year 2- $12, 881
Year 3- $8,486

So still easily more affordable than all the private programs. I was relieved.

Also - CBS 2008- I was told there are 23 people in incoming GEP class. Very tiny!

Would anybody be interested in meeting up at some point this summer just to say hi and get to know each other a little before we start? I am in West Newton, but I'd happily drive anywhere.

Yeah, I'd be interested in getting together to meet people before we start. Maybe somewhere in Worcester since thats where we'll be commuting to for the next 3 years of our lives!

Hello, I just read your posts on here and wanted to wish everyone good luck this fall. I just graduated from the traditional Master's program at UMASS Worcester and really enjoyed it. I did the Acute Care NP specialty. I think it is a great program and feel prepared for my new role. Best wishes to you all.

Hi Christine,
Glad to hear that you enjoyed the program. I'm starting to get nervous as August is rapidly approaching. The summer seems like it is just flying along. We received our summer homework assignments about a month ago and thats when it really hit me. Thanks for the encouraging words!
