What do u do as a rn in a ltc facility??

Hi everyone!! I am a new grad and i got an opportunity to work in a small town ltc facility and i would be making AWESOME money. They start their RN's out at $37 an hour. My aunt actually set me up with the interview next week, cause she works as an administrator there. But what I was wondering what do you do as an RN there? I really wanted to be an OB nurse, but for starting out, I don't know if I can turn down an opportunity to make that kind of money as a new grad. Any feed back would be greatly appriciated thanks!!

WOW! What dont we do, you are gonna love LTC, you get to develop long term relationships with your patients and make a real difference in their lives, what you do is less important than HOW you do it. You will get a good orientation as to the job, if you are unsure, go spend some time touring and observing the facility. I will not build expectations that might not be pertinent to your facility.
GOOD LUCK!!

Wow! That is an amazing salary! I agree with the previous poster that you should go check it out for yourself to see what the RNs do.
When I started my new job I was surprised that the LPNs did the same job as me. The only difference so far is that if a resident has an IV or PICC an RN has to handle anything having to do with it.
Good luck!

Hard to believe that salary. Certainly no RN's around here are making that much in long term care..at least unless they are the DNS. You'll do meds, treatments, IVs, whatever is needed. In Massachusetts the only thing RNs can do that LPNs can't in long term care is a nurse pronouncement.

Same work as when I was an LPN, but 50cents an hour more!! Woohoo!! As CapeCodMermaid says, the only extra thing I do now as an RN that I could not do as an LPN is the RN pronouncement of death. BTW, that salary sounds very fishy. I am on the south coast of MA, making low to mid 20's per hour, depending on shift diff, been an LPN for 3 years, RN for 3 months. Don't know where you are located, but look into that salary amount.

Our RNs start at $30/hr. In addition to the pronunciation, RNs are the only nurses able to care for all central IVs, and the LPN can care for the peripheral lines. ALL assessments MUST be done by the RN. LPNs are not able to assess in NYS. The job description will vary depending on the shift and title. Staff RNs are either supervising one unit of 50 residents and doing meds/Tx for 12 of those residents. Or she is supervising the building of 100 residents. The RNs oversee the care of the residents by the CNAs and LPNs.

I'm actually a floater. I do office work and help the MDS coordinator, work on the scheduling, take the floor when there is a call in and act as house supervisor every other weekend. I've worked with the elderly and in LTC since I became a nurse and used to think I was missing out by not being in on the excitement of a hospital in a large city, but now, I guess since I'm older I feel content where I am: a small (but very busy) LTC facility. I love the residents and most people I work with. They really do become sort of like a second familiy.

If it's true you will make that much money you should grab that job. I have almost ten years experience and I'm paid in the upper 20's.

No offense but anyone who doesn't know the difference between Pronouncement and Pronunciation shouldn't 1. be allowed to pronounce, and 2, be making $30/hr.
