Does anyone else have this problem? I am ADON at a personal care home, I work 9-10 hours a day. I help out on the floor when aides call out and No one will come in. My DON works 6-8 hours a day. She does not fill in or help much on the floor. Of course she makes alot more than I do. I only got 3% raise like everyone gets. No merit raise. She tells new hires that if you do a excellent job you will get a merit raise with the 3%. I leave on vacation for 9 days. She will see all that I do.

Thanks for listening.

I am the DNS. I get to work before 8 and often don't leave till after 5 or 6. I am on call 24/7 and, believe me, I get calls at all times. I put in more hours than anyone else in my building (including the administrator). It's too bad your DON doesn't set a good example.

I'm a DON. My last DON job I could reasonably do 9 hours a day plus call 24/7, wkend manager, etc. It was all pretty reasonable & I was encouraged to take a day off if the hours started stacking up.

Decided I needed to go to the brand new beautiful building in town. Last payperiod I had 115 hours in - 13 days in a row (although only paid for 80 hours salary). I asked the boss for a day off once he returned from vacation....was told I basically didn't deserve a day off & it irritated him that I even felt I could ask for one. Of course we've all only been there 6 months or so - he's been to Florida, Las Vegas & a week camping trip. I've had 1 day off that wasn't a Sat/Sun. I'm working out my 30 days notice & counting the days!

Enjoy your vacation! I'm headed to the East Coast ocean August 4th! Yippee!

Thanks for the input, I am an ADON, currently working 10-15 hour days and even if I stayed longer I would never complete all that I need to do. I help a lot and still not enough. I go on vacation in August and cannot wait.

Nascar...the East Coast ocean is called the Atlantic. Maybe I'll see you floating by.

Yep, I knew that...just wasn't sure where we would be on the Atlantic. It is now decided. Will be Ocean City, MD and I think you are a little further north than that.

Now to just make it thru these last 2 weeks of work. Ugh!

I'm a DON/DNS. I work at MINIMUM 10 hours a day and often come back in evening or on weekends, even if just to show some support. I have an *awesome* *stellar* *wonderful* ADON and my unit managers rock.. Nurses are great (overwhelmed at best), and until we get away from having 30 patients/nurse (mix SNF/NF), it won't get better, period. I wish it were easier. Today was a really tough day for me. I had fire after fire after fire to put out, and when I look back at it, it is all preventable, but with what we ask of the floor nurses, who wouldn't miss stuff?? It's so frustrating!

I am an Assistant Care Manager in an acute care hospital, my goal is (or should I say was) DON at a LTC facility since I am approaching 50 and want to move away from bedside nursing (I still take an assignment plus do my management duties). However, reading through all the threads I don't think it will be any easier than what I already do....ugh.

I plan to shadow a few of my friends who are DON's and then maybe I will have a better understanding of all that is entailed in the life of a DON.

I don't see how you all do it, because LTC DON has to be one of the hardest most frustrating jobs ever. I'm in awe of anyone who even attempts to take on something like that.
