We have a RNC who comes in every 3 weeks and tears the facility apart, making everyones

job harder than it has to be. Make smart remarks to us, does not listen to us. Throws new forms at us that no one has ever seen, tells us that we should already be doing these. Sigh....Never has anything good to say. We aviod her like the black plague, she is far worse than any state surveyor. Anyone feel this way is a corporate run facility.

Please someone else comment on your experience with this. I feel like Iam being thrown under the bus. This one is very rude , and finds things wrong, when after youve investigated, theres nothing wrong. I get no positive feedback, only negative all the time. Does anyone out there work for a corporate facility?

1. Can you reasonably take her aside and simply state that you would benefit from a different approach rather than one that just makes you and your team immediately defensive. Even if she growls at you for this it shouldn't much matter as that's what she is doing anyways & maybe, just maybe, something will sink into her brain.

2. What does your administrator have to say? Sometimes they can advocate for you. We had a maniac business office consultant years ago and the administrator at the time called corporate and had her banned from the building. Loved it & loved her for having the guts to stick up for us.

3. Everyone has a boss...go right over her head & tell someone above her how you feel and as a result of her poor attitude the results it does/does not have in your facility.

4. My corporation has an outside compliance hotline. This is ran by an independent firm and designed to investigate all problems. It would look into anyone not meeting the standards of our care - this would include professionalism to our coworkers.

Meanwhile, I feel for you. This very job should be a mentoring type role, not a punative role. They should be a coach and a cheerleader. I have been so lucky - we actually look forward to our consultant coming as she is so kind and helpful. She is truely a role model for all of us and very knowledgeable in her role. (But wouldn't you know she is leaving the company for bigger and better opportunities).

Good luck

Hello. Sorry you are having a hard time. My DON pal describes her corporate inspection person in some of the same words you have used: "...tears our place apart..., finds things wrong, and ...makes everyone's job harder than it has to be...". I agree with the writer who stated that the role of an inspector "should be a mentoring type role, not a punative role...". Even if the inspection person improves and becomes a more mentoring co-worker, however, the frequent, picky inspections of your facility will probably continue. My DON pal says that long term care facilities are the one of the most inspected and regulated types of health care facilities in this country. Since inspection "nightmares" may be the norm for LTC's, here are two ideas for coping with this situation : (1) express your concerns in a professional manner to your administrator, and/ or (2) locate a job in which the usual tasks are less stressful and submit your resignation. Hard stuff! Best wishes.

professionalism to our coworkers, this is what Im talking about. Corporate should not be coming in to down us, but show us what we could be doing better and follow up. I have expressed this concern to my ADM, but nothing so far. But I do agree with you, Nascar Nurse, A phone call is in hand. Maybe a professional sit down meeting face to face. Thanks for the advise. I just need a pat on the back, not a kick in the butt.

This RNC is not your Boss, she's a Consultant & someone needs to remind her of it.

Contact Corporate & tell them how she's acting in YOUR building.

If she comes every three weeks, can you possibly take some personal days when she's in the building? :D

Hi again! Yes, you and many DON's certainly deserve a pat on the back for working oh so hard toward the goal of good health care for the patients at LTC's ! Take a bow! To me, DON's at long term care facilities are "unsung heroes". Hope you will find combort in the thought that you are not alone in your struggles to seek "professionalism in co-workers" at a LTC--- my DON pal recently called me literally crying saying that a corporate inspection person had "downed" them with write ups about several nitpicky errors! Thanks for doing your best to help patients in LTC's ! Best wishes.

OMG. All I will say is YES YES YES I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!!!!!!! It's not just you... Do we work for the same company??? LOL....

I know corporate nurses like that. They come in swinging and screaming and acting like Hitler. Then in the next breath talks about treating people with respect. Do as I say not as I do. I wish some of them could be filmed so they could see how they really act.

Fortunately, I do not have one of those right now. I like my current corporate nurse. She is respectful. She offers advice and I call her when I just need to hash things out.
