Our worlds are opening up, along with the opportunities, as we transition from the stagnation that is Practical Nursing into Registered Nursing. No:nurse::nurse:w we are faced with choices once unavailable to most of us. One of those choices is the choice of specialty. What specialty do you plan to go into upon RN licensure?

Specializes in lots of different areas.

Hello! Thanks for starting this thread... I am finishing my first semester of the transition program, so I have the summer and fall semesters left, and then I'm board eligible! After getting my LPN, I worked in an office for a year, and then PRN in LTC skilled unit for 6 months. Hated the office, and loved the skilled work. I do know that I can't do LTC for an extended period of time (burnout).

In my LPN clinicals, I had hardly any peds/OB experience. But I've always been fascinated with OB, I've had a Csec, and then two subsequent Vbacs. I loved everything about childbirth and learning about any and everything pregnancy. And since reviewing peds in class, that seems intersting too. So does all this mean I belong in L & D? I guess my RN clinicals will decide that for me this summer and fall, right? How do you know where you belong? I've only done LTC as and LPN and CNA, so I don't think that's where I belong..

When I complete my BSN, I defininitely want to do L&D and postpartum. That was the best clinical rotation for me in the LVN and RN programs, I loved it. For my Master's I haven't decided yet to be a Certified Nurse Midwife or CRNA.

I plan on staying in hospice. I've been doing that for about 8 or 9 years now and just love it. As an RN, I'll be able to do everything I do now plus admits and re-certs.
