West Coast University in CA( LVN-RN )

by cpacia124 Platinum Member

Hello,

I am interested in pursuing my RN after I have passed my LVN boards exam. I don't know anyone who has attended the school. If you know any information about the school or any school re: LVN_RN (BSN) I would gladly appreciate it!!!

Thanks =)

I've heard about this school and went to their info session too in Ontario. It is a good school, their passing rate is about 92-95%. 18 months long, and 3 days a week. You need to have your LVN license and GPA of 3.0 to be enrolled into their program. The only downside is the tution fee. Its about 67K, which I think is way tooooo high. First 9 months are pre-requisites and the last 9 months are RN classes. I am thinking of going there as I don't want to be on any waiting lists at any JC. I think it would be worth it in the end. Hope that helped!!

everything thunia5842 said was correct about the school. if you have your prereqs done itll cost you less. around $30k i heard. that would be my last resort. does anyone else know if they are accredited?

if you look on the board of nursing website west coast is on there which leads me to believe they are accredited..husband is starting the lvn to rn program in anaheim feb 2nd. yes tuition is 67,000...but in the end he'll be done w/ school sooner than waiting at a jc.

They are accredited. But u might want to think about going there if u want to go further for BSN. I heard only university of phoenix will accept the ADN from WCU. It might not be transferble to community colleges or UC schools.

I recently looked on their website and saw that they now offer a BSN program. Does anyone know anything about this? What the prereqs are? And is tuition alone $67,000 or does that include books and living expenses?

the 67,000 price tab is for the lvn to rn(adn) program. for the bsn program is more than $100,000. you don't need to have prereqs you take the program from start to finish w/ them. someone had this advice w/ whom i agree compleately. do you math, english, chem speech and other classes full time at community college and than go see wc. you would save a lot of money. i know it's hard to get into antomy , physio and micro so that's fine to take it at wc but for the rest go ahead and take it at a community college just make sure they are going to take them.

Hi,

At first the school makes you feel that you can work through the entire program, not true. They pay these teachers too much $$$$. When you ask for help all they say, well you knew it's a fast pace program, you need to take the time to read/study on your own or in group. During the GE classes are a bit hard, however once you get into the nursing classes that's when hell begins. They have you take all kinds of exit test before you can continue to the next term. HESI EXAMS!!!!!. If you don't pass, guess what? $10,000.00 to repeat per term. So the pressure is on, I know some students have repeated at least three terms already!!!! That's a lot of money, time. I need 8 more weeks to finish, however I still have to pass advance Med-Surg class and the teacher we have is very hard, she even told us good luck in passing my class!!!! Wow !!!!!! If someone could have warn me that I paid $65,000.00 just to sit for NCLEX or perhaps a so called home study. I would have never signed up with this school, if you have a chance. Visit the campus, and ask nursing student how unhappy everyone is. My advise if you are still young and have the time to get into a community college do so. However, I also waited some time on the waiting list at a community college and I was never called. I am 41 y/o, as you can see I had no choice.
