Re: For those of you attending/graduates of Stanbridge...
they will tell you but BELIEVE ME you don't have to study that much each day, are you kidding me? iIMPOSSIBLE and RIDICULOUS to do so. Again, i can only speak for the first course which is nursing fundamentals, i never studied even close to that much, OR everyday. there may come courses where ill have to, but NEVER that much. EVER.
One thing i could say is that you will not pass by just reviewing the powerpoints, so dont rely on that, no matter how in depth they seem. you do need to read the chapters, and understand what you are reading.
i am part time like you, so yes i am definitely still in first term, i just barely finished my first course, i started this past june. so behind your class, we are the next in line newbies, so im just as fresh. so def ask other stanbridge students who have been there longer for their input.
we start the clinicals at a real facility sep 19th, but starting at a LTC not hospital right off the bat...

we are having a few hiccups with our first term course. Our instructor is out for medical reasons....and we have had a few subs. Last Thursday we were given a pretty heavy load of homework. Most of the students I have spoken with over this weekend are freaking out with this load. I am trying to hold it together myself, but to be honest, it is a bit much. can you briefly give a norm of the work load you guys get? I am hoping this is a glitch. the instructor informed us that she did not have a 'syllabus' to go off of....(um, hello?). IMHO, she did not know what she was doing....and just threw some things together. 3 chapters in Rosedahl, 2 Ch's in Memmlers, 50 math problems in Pickar, and reviewing the MED terms and A&P....oh, and to be prepared for a quiz or 2 - but forgot to bother to give any info on what those quizes entail.
I have had a few emails from other students, like i said, and everyone is feeling pretty lost at this point. IS THIS THE WAY this school is going to be like? if so, i feel lied to at this point. I understand their are glitches, and i can be flexible, but this is even too much for me at this point. the home work load is overwhelming. the class instruction was disorganized and the instructor was hard to follow. I even asked a question in order for her to clarify a word for me on the body quadrants, and she told me i would have to 'look that up myself'. nice "teaching".
blech.
sorry, venting here. please give me hope for this school yet....does this sound like the 'norm' workload your class is getting?????

Re: For those of you attending/graduates of Stanbridge...
hey blesses2bstressed,
i'll tell you what does sound "norm" to me and thats the # of issues your having right now. my class had tons of problems with similar issues and our instructor was "out on med leave" as well so we went from instructor to instructor. im so not surprised by the problems your having. things are easing now, and we are in the groove of things. the first few weeks they really made it difficult for us and i understand what you're going through. as far as giving you hope, i will say stick it through. things have gotten better for my class and we have a steady instructor now, but at the beginning everyone was running around like chickens with their heads cut off. the workload? well, the first few days, yeah they gave us alot of reading, but not that much. im really sorry you're going through that. since your now in the school you must feel helpless and in a way you are because you're at the mercy of the school and curriculum. not having a syllabus? thats ridiculous.

Re: For those of you attending/graduates of Stanbridge...
hey CSN,
our first exam is coming up in about a week and half...the instructor said something about a 'study guide' that they give to you. she said 40 questions or so are on that guide, and 50 questions for the exam...
She said if you focus on the study guide, you will have no issues with the exam...do you find this study guide to be your sure bet? i was very surprised that they have a study guide like this....it really eliminates the stress of not knowing what is on the exam, but it almost seems too good to be true. can it be THAT easy?
what's been your experience with the study guides and the exams there?

I have never gotten a study guide. Every teacher is different though, mine right now just tells us what to "focus on" and we go by that but before she started doing that i just read the chapter, did the workbook (rosdahl) and DO THE ATI....a study guide or 'telling us what to focus on" is a privelage and my cousin (who is term 3) says that she NEVER got any of those luxuries, so i am just thankful for it and take what help is given to me. sorry to say that i have never gotten that study guide you speak of so i cant vouch for it's effectivity. i could only hope that it helps you...stick it out, it does get smoother...

Re: For those of you attending/graduates of Stanbridge...
wow. so this is really not the 'norm'? hmmm. I won't get too attached to this concept since this is only our sub. You said that your class did not have the original instructor as well, so is your class working through that? I take it your class is going better for you.
I definitely plan on sticking it out - lol ....i am pretty invested at this point, so there is not much i can do
oh, i guess you got your laptop and ipod by now, how do you like the lap top? good quality? or so so....?
what do you use your ipod for? i was looking online at some flashcard apps, i think that is a great idea...it beats lugging around 50 lbs of books and multiple flashcards....do you or anyone you know have this app? if so, how are they liking it?
also, thanks for all your input and encouragement! it is helping me a great deal! | | No. 16 |

Re: For those of you attending/graduates of Stanbridge...
we do have our permanent teacher now, but they can change from course to course, so we might not have her for next course (class) but yeah we had 3 teachers for the course: nursing fundamentals which is waht you're in right now. it has gotten better and smoother but keep in mind we're very fresh as well! so i only speak off 3 months exp. but it has gotten better and i hope it does for your class..
the lap top is a "notebook laptop" which means its the smaller carry around ones. i havent even touched the itouch yet really because i not too electronic device handy, but im sure there are many apps that are helpful, i just havent had the time to research apps.
