Should I get my LPN license?

Nursing Students LPN-RN

I will be graduating from my LPN program in a couple weeks. I work as a tech in the hospital right now. The hospital does not hire LPN, so I will only have the option of working at a DR's office or in LTC if I do my LPN exam. Right now, I have heard that most new RN grads get their jobs by working in house at the hospital. I am afraid that if I get my LPN license, I will be setting myself up to a career in LTC and I will have difficulty getting the acute care job that I will want as an RN. What do you think? Should I get my LPN license and cross the RN bridge when I get to it, or should I play it safe and stay as a tech in the hospital?

I personally would get an LPN and then just stay as a surgery tech if u love it so much. But by having your LPN can just make u more marketable in the future and also easier if u plan on doing LPN to RN bridge program. I am currently looking for a LPN to RN bridge program myself. There is a guy that went through the same LPN program as I did but like 6 months earlier that was a surg tech and he still is, he said he makes less money but doesn't want to work in LTC. So he is taking BSN classes has an LPN and works as a surg tech.

I would still get it! I mean you've gone through school for it, and what if in the future you do find a place that hires lpns, then you have your license. It's another thing on the resume! plus if you do a bridge program to rn or what have you, you have to have your lpn license.

Thank you for the advice guys. I forgot to tell you that if I get my LPN license, I wouls lose my job. The hospital has a policy that says that you have to practice at the level of care that you are certified for. Hence no nurses working as techs

Start looking for a job as a LPN first and explain to your future employer your situation. I see how scarry it can be to make that transition but didn't you know this when you were in LPN school. Either way you are at a crossroads because you can't bridge into RN school without your LPN license. You are gonna have to sacrifice at some point.

Its a great way to start your career!
