Shepherd University in Los Angeles?

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

Ok so i just graduated and got my LVN license. I am looking to jump right into a bridge program so i can get my RN. A person i met told me about a program in Los Angeles that her daughter attends. The schools name is Shepherd University and i actually went to talk to an advisor there. The program costs about 40k (as it is a private school) and their passing rate is excellent (greater than %90 passing). But then again their program isnt very old... I was wondering if anyone has attended this school or has any knowledge of this program? thanks in advance..

Any time! :)

Like you, I was thinking about just getting LVN certified, but there are other cheaper schools that finishes faster (i.e., Palladium Technical Academy in El Monte has a 15month LVN program). I don't want to keep going to school my entire life, so a direct path to RN is what I want.

If you're getting a BSN, you might as well work for a M.S.N and become a teacher. If you're able to take courses at your local cc, save some money and do it. Then transfer to Shepherd.

In my opinion, the only reason to get anything higher than a ADN would be that you want to teach, work in the federal/state government, or some fancy private facility.

I have no idea on what the clinical rotations are...You should call/go in person and ask.

Good luck jojodordor and hope to see you there soon.

I called them last week and talked to the Japanese woman on phone and she told me to send them my transcripts and stuff but until today (Tuesday) I haven't heard back from them, not even a reply to my email. And I actually called them yesterday hoping to speak to the person who was helping me last week, they said she wasn't in the office and I left a message asking her to call me back! but she didn't. So I called her just now, and she was actually in the office today! This is kinda intimidating.. I mean she never called me back or follow me up even she knew I had been calling! I asked her if she got my email and she didn't even open my email but she said she knew I sent her a email and another person would call me back tomorrow, she's in a hurry to hang up on me! wt..

I don't know what to say...Unfortunately, for family reasons, I'm post-phoning a semester or two and going back to my home-country. Thus, I most likely will stop posting on this forum...

jojodordor PM me.

ok guys

let me start from beginning..i have been student here for more than 3 years..

this university sucks sucks and sucks

i hate them

they are dummies..fake..i totally hate them

they are the biggest racist i have ever seen..

now let me explain u why

i took one class with 30 other people..

more than 10 people fail that class from more than2 points..i failed that class from0.2 point..

later i came to know that i have to pay 1500 for that class and take some part of it again.. i was ****** becuz i came to know that other 9 people got 2nd chance to give same exam ..i ask them i deserve second chance too..but my teacher told me no she is not giving me second chance ..she told me they were lucky so they got 2nd chance.i dont see anyreason for teacher to give 2nd chance to other 9 students except me..

PLEASE BEFORE U EVEN THINK ABOUT THIS UNIVERSITY,ASK ME ALL THE QUESTIONS..

THEY ARE ONLY NICE TO THEIR COMMUNITY PEOPLE..

now i dont know what to do..

>I called them last week and talked to the Japanese woman on phone

There is no Japanese worker there.

There is one Korean lady who speaks a little bit of Japanese language, but not enought to keep

conversation in Japanese.

This lady seems not good at conveying a message because I had to call 3 times just to make sure she will give my message to the person who in charge and gave her my phone number 3 times...

I think this school is like a one of the private LVN schools.

They accept any students who want to enroll without any difficult entrace tests and get some money in advance.

However, they will not keep any students who fail an exam during the program since they don't want to jeopadize their high passing nclex rate.

This method is also used for most private LVN school at the moment.

It is very easy to get into the program of private school, but you should be prepared to keep passing exams of the program since each semester is pretty expensive.

at shepherd u can pay by semester but they do not gaurantee u a seat in the following semester if u do not pay in full. i found out there is about 1.5 month break in between each semester. keep in mind that their nursing program has been around for 11 years now and just been approved by the brn last month. I'm not trying to defend the program but there are not that many LVN to RN programs without waits in california any more.

@tothepointeLVN: i've heard of excelsior but never considered it because of the licensing issue in california. after reading the ad, it does soun appealing but is that legit? and with the job shortage in nursing in california, would that really be a good idea?

who has this kinda money to pay in full???? without financial aid will be hard for students like me

Hi I am an LVN and I am looking for honest opinions on this school whether good or bad.

I have tried to get into community colleges for their RN program, but have not had much success.

Between Shepherd and West Coast college, these are my last 2 resorts.

Please help thanks.

Since you are an LVN, you should look into . http://www.wgu.edu Way more affordable than both of the others. Their next cohort starts in August. Check into it.

I would try schools like National University cost is (37,000) , West Coast University is the same nu 37,000.

But Shepherd University is a new college, no federal aid to pay tuition. Think about it ,but if i was you i would not go to that school. You're going to paying 5,000 per sem 79,000 cost.

i

national university in los angles by the lax airport or west coast university in valley best choice.

I am thinking of applying for Fall 2011, anyone else is planning on starting LVN - RN at Shepherd this Fall?

thinking about it but don't know about the price.

I went to talk to them and they said that I need to take pre-req courses in Fall which will cost me a total of 12000 and then I will be able to start the nursing courses in Spring, but that's IF I get accepted, which is according to the counselor is 50/50 chance. SO then I have to spend 12000 taking all these pre-req in addition to the old pre-req I took. I already took Anat/Phys, Micro, Chem, but now have to take Music Appreciation, Biology, Role Transition, and 3 others, a total of 6 courses and pay 12000 in hopes that MAYBE I get accepted for the actual program in Spring. Do not have a good feeling about this. Is there anyone who has been through this and got accepted for the actual nursing program or someone who got denied after doing all this work and spending all this money??????? Please let me know your opinion. THanks
