question for LPN' s... I have a dilemma

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

hello everyone,

i have a dilemma and i would like some advice from those of you who have taken the lpn to rn route.

i did not pass the required pharm class in order to enter the rn program in the fall of 06', but i have been accepted to the lpn program.

the lpn program starts in the fall and i would have to register tomorrow june 5.

i am so confused because i want to be an rn:( but at the same time i want to get the ball rolling. i am going on 3 years of pre-req's and for me to apply to the rn program i would have to take that pharm class again in the fall and reapply for spring 07.

i would like to know, do any of you regret doing the lpn instead of going straight into the rn ?

or...... do you feel better prepared for the rn program since you have experience as an lpn?

one more question:

the lpn program i got accepted to goes for 3 semesters, is this the norm and also how intense was the program?

i am sorry that i rambling and asking a ton's of questions, but i need to decide by tomorrow, i know that i have other factors to look at, but i would like to get the feel ......pretty much some word of advice. i am stuck and confused:bluecry1: :bluecry1: :bluecry1:

I have just recently passed my boards for the LPN and am enrolled for the fall RN program, I feel like I should of just did it all at once instead of doing all this, sitting for boards then having to go through it all again. The only up side to it is, if I can't go on for some reason I have a career to get me along untill I could get back to school. I hope it helps. Good luck

Thanks for responding:mad:

Did you have to have a certain average to continue to the RN program? In my school I think you have to maintain an 80% to continue directly into the RN if not you have to work for one year as an LPN and then apply for the RN.

Another problem that I am having is that I earn as much as an LPN earns and I just sit behind a desk and type. That is why I want so much to be nurse because my job is not rewarding AT ALL!!! but then again I don't want to bust my butt, get stressed out, feel overworked and bring home the same salary that i bring NOW..... although salary should not be my main concern, I don't want to go home feeling overworked and underpaid.... hope you get my point.... I'm sort of rambling :lol2: :lol2:

we had to have a 3.2 or better, but also the people with the higher GPA's get in first so you have to strive to get the best grades possible

I always used to beat myself up about not going straight for my RN. I've been a LPN for almost since 1996, and I just started to take my pre-reqs one class at a time until I had no choice but to bite the bullet and enroll in a RN program. I now feel better about my choice, i think i would have absolutely lost my if I was just hearing the majority of the information in lecture for the first time. There were 9 LPNs who did the transisiton course, and it was challanging, just because you are already a nurse does not mean that you don't have to study. It was intense and a lot, but some stuff you didn't have to stress because you heard it before, or you just know what s/s you should be looking for. I think LPN to RN is a great choice, and like you said if you can't finish you still can make good money doing nursing. Also when other classmates are stressing about temp. licenses and passing the boards..it's really no sweat to you 'cause you have a license that you can work on and keep even when you pass your NCLEX. Good luck with your decision

Good luck with you decision

Thank you for responding I am officially an LPN student. I enrolled today and I feel good and I am excited about starting in the fall. Now I have to get my physical and my CPR certificate and I will have orientation Aug 14

I am hearing from alot of LPN students that it is better to get some experience before diving into the RN, so all in all I am happy. I'll take my journey one day at a time.

But right now I am excited and nervous :w00t:

Now off to bed I go... I start summer class tomorrow (A&P II)
