Private Trade School LPN-to-RN Program

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

Howdy! I recently passed the NET Test for a trade school LPN-to-RN bridge program that is due to start in January of next year, and my interview with the school's director is next week. My admission into the program will happen if it is meant to be. I'm approaching this situation cautiously, as this program is pricey. However, any money spent on tuition will be earned back within the first few months of employment as an RN

In other words, I'm viewing this decision as a potential investment in human capital that, hopefully, will continue to increase in value as the years pass.

Hi Commuter ,

I have more questions if that is ok. :specs::specs:

Do you know yet if you will be able to work weekends if you needed to ? ( I would ) .

Do you know if there is housing available like dorms or something ?

I would really like to just get it done and one year will pass regardless, you are right about that.

Hope you don't mind all the questions, Calliesue

This is a trade school, so no dorms are available.

I would be able to work weekends with the type of schedule they offer.

Good luck Commuter! :yeah:

I went the private trade school route and I have no regrets. Nothing against CCs and BSN programs but FOR ME this was the best decision. I didn't have the energy to commit to a school with only the possibility of being accepted to the clinical phase. One good thing about private trade schools is that your acceptance means you have a clinical seat from day one.

I graduate with my ADN in April '09 and being able to get through in 2 years from start to finish w/ pre-reqs included was worth the price tag. I became an LPN after the first year and I work as one right now. The total was 40K; I did all loans for first year and didn't work but this year I am working as an LPN so now I pay some of my tuition from my own pocket so I will not be 40k in debt after all.

If I had went the other route I might have been accepted for clincal this fall, that is if I got accepted kwim?

I'm really happy with the choice that I made. :)

Congrats Commuter! You'll fly through the program without any problems! Good luck!!

Commuter,

Can you tell us what school this is? How much it costs, etc?

Any info you can share would be so appreciated!:)

Thanks,

Alie

It's Platt College, located in OKC. The yearlong program is $23,500 if you need all your prerequisite classes, but cheaper if you've completed some or all prereqs.

So Commuter, you are leaving the Cowtown?

Commuter,

Do they take sciences over 5 years old?

I have everything else and just need to take the NET? or HESI?

Thanks,

Alie

I plan to work on weekends in Cowtown, and spend the week at school in OKC.

They accept prerequisites that are over 5 years old. Since they are a trade school, they'll even accept students who have no prerequisite classes. The entrance exam they use is the NET, with unlimited retakes.

Oh! That sounds great. Best of luck in school!
