Hello Tommy..!!

I accepted going into the RN program at Mt. Sac CC and just finished my 1st semester. It's been a bumpy road but the LVN program helped me A LOT when taking quizzes and with clinicals. I really, really am happy that I chose to start again from the beginning because it has given me a different perspective. LVNs and RNs have different mentalities to deal with. While the LVN has a lot of task-oriented duties throughout the day, the RN is more focused on developing care plans, supervising the surrounding staff that's helping you with your pt., and actually sitting down with the pt. to come up with these care plans. It is A LOT OF PAPERWORK and running around. Totally different worlds. It took me a while to get out of the LVN mode and into RN mode. Ultimately, my clinical instructors said that I finally made the transition.

I decided to attend the CC because it is less expensive and they had already offered me placement in the program. If I went in as an LVN, I'd probably still be waiting to get in, so I opted to start fresh and it really did help me out. For me, West Coast isn't an option because I don't want to accumulate so much debt before getting a job. I would become an RN in 9 months, but I'm in no hurry and I question the quality of the program and my sanity going at such great speed. It's better to take breaks in between because the nursing program is VERY, VERY STRESSFUL.

Tommy, you have to think about what is best for you. Are you in an LVN program now..?? Did you get accepted into an RN program recently? You said that your situation is similar to mine and I am thinking this is your case as well. In my case, it just worked out that I got asked twice to the RN program. The first time I was halfway thru the LVN program and didn't want to drop out, but in retrospect, I should have started the RN program then. I chose to continue and then apply to the RN program as an LVN, but they asked me into the program again. This time it was at the time I was almost finished with the LVN program. I struggled with the decision, but finally accepted to go into the RN program from the start because then I would probably have to wait 2-3 years to get in. I was going to have to wait 6 months anyway to get my LVN license, then get into the bridge program. This way, I just started from the beginning and bypassed all of that. I also decided to NOT take the NCLEX exam as I figured out that I will never work as an LVN.

So, it's up to you and what is right for YOU. Let me know if this helps..!! Good luck..!!

I am also planning on attending WCU next year. Has anyone had any trouble transferring over their pre-reqs from JCs? Can any of you tell me which classes you took and where as far as pre-reqs. :]

thank you so much for your helpful comments!! i graduated from LVN school and got a license, then transfered to a local community college because i thought i would be able to go bridge course since i have a license. they did not tell me that i have to have an experience first, but i recently found out that i actually need one year experience to get in a bridge course. so i was sooo upset because it means i have to start as a new nursing student in the RN program. they are not even sure how long is the waiting. so i am thinking about WCU but money is the issue..... some of my friends told me that it costs same if i go to WCU or wait some years to get in the RN program at college.(i have to pay thousands dollors for one semester cuz i am an international) i am not sure exactly how much cost at WCU but seems waaay expensive than i thought.... anyway, i haven't apply for the RN program yet cuz i was taking some required classes last semester, but i think i will apply for the program in this fall semester..... im dying to know how long is the waiting list

i've had friends that have waited 1 1/2 years to waiting 5 years. some schools are lottery, some are first come first serve. you should talk to a school nursing rep.

hello all,
i need help figuring this out...
i just finished my lvn and got my license in July. I have been job hunting since then..did get a job but doesn't utilize all of my LVN skills..but a job is a job..

i have been trying to get into an RN program forever!!!!
i have finished all my pre reqs and have an AA in health science...pre reqs have already expired though and don't have a very good GPA in my sciences..

are there any schools out there that don't have long waiting lists and that accept a lower GPA to get in?? or is it smarter to just repeat on of the science classes???

it seems that i'm just waisting my time sitting around and waiting for just another letter that declines me acceptance into an RN program...any advice???

did check out WCU..way too expensive and don't take pre rqes older than 5 years..

also, checked out WGU and waiting to hear from them for acceptance into January class...but if they don't accept me then i don't know which way to take anymore??!!!

any help will be greatly appreciated...thank you
