Lpn to Rn online. Can it be done?

Hi all. I'm a Lpn in Tn. I want to go back to get my RN. I was in school for awhile to do so before I applied for the lpn program. So I should have all of the prerequisites already completed. Except Intro into Microbiology. I still need that one. Anyways. Are there any REAL online schools/classes I can take to get my RN? It's hard to know what's a scam anymore. Or if it will even be recognized. Any help is appreciated.

Excelsior College is a legitimate distance-based option for those highly motivated individuals who would like to make the transition from LPN to RN.

You would need to be a good independent learner and a self-starter.

Isn't excelsior a non degree program? That's something to consider. Indiana University was doing one, not sure if they still do. I looked and looked but that was all I found. I believe Texas has a Galen Health Institute (maybe it's near you? ) and they have hybrid programs.

Otherwise yeah its tough.

Isn't excelsior a non degree program?
Excelsior College offers a distance-based LPN-to-ASN (associate of science in nursing) degree program. Since the OP is in Tennessee, her state BON should accept a nursing education from Excelsior College.

I'll look into this school. Thank you very much. I do have a couple more questions.

1. I currently work nights and am off 4 days per week. So I'd have lots of study time. How fast can the degree be finished? With the right motivation of course. Again, I only lack Micro and the nursing courses.

2. I'm seeing a lot about a 16 week conference. No clue what that entails. But it sounds terrible.

I've known highly motivated people who finished Excelsior's LPN-to-ASN degree requirements in 8 months to one year. You can test out of the Micro using an Excelsior Credit Exam (ECE) or take it at your local community college.

It's actually an 8 week conference, you will be eligible to test any time in the 8 weeks after that. It also doesn't go into affect until July 2015.

Avoid companies like The College Network, Distance Learning Systems, Achieve Test Prep, RUE etc as they are not schools only publishers of study guides and tutors and cost several thousand dollars on top of your real classes. Excelsior is a real college and they have an LPN to RN ADN program and an RN-BSN & RN-MSN program. The good thing about EC is you can get your ADN and work a year or two then get your BSN. ISU is a BSN program. Anyone can do the EC or ISU programs if they are motivated!!!
