From LPN to RN without prerequisites? 😩

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Updated:   Published

Currently been a Lpn for a yr 1/2... Now I'm looking for a bridge program (Lpn to RN) however, ECPI failed to mention their credits weren't transferable? So now what? ? I don't want to start over! ! #irritated but #determined ??

First of all, who is ECPI? Have you tried Excelsior? They are great about accepting credits from almost anywhere. Even though I had taken my English Comp 1 & 2, History, Gov't, Sociology, Psyche, etc eons ago, they still accepted them. They are sticky about your A&P. The one you take for your LVN?LPN is a survey course and will not count toward the RN. I took that class also for my LVN, but had also taken the upper level course years ago (& before I had 5 more kids), but it expired. So I took

A&P 1&2 along with Micro. I just hope I don't mess around too long and get stuck having to meet all sorts of new requirements, like the new math requirement. I want to be an RN before I become a GREAT-grandmother! Can you imagine applying for a job?? "And it took you this long because.....?"

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

Where are you located?

I am in Raleigh NC and ECPI is an accredited nursing school that offers the LPN program within 14 mos.

Most LPN credits DON'T transfer over due to scope issues; you will have to take pre-req's in order to gain entry into a RN program.

Prerequisites do transfer if you've taken the right ones (credit is credit) ECPI just didn't offer the ones alot of schools require. Thanks tho

I just finished my 2nd semester of pre-reqs. It is annoying to back track your classes. Although you may have done A&P with your LPN (which is what I did) I am sure you did not do any humanities or english courses. In order for you to earn your degree you need more than just the nursing classes. It is a pain but I think overall I am becoming more knowlegable in the process and am excited to start my RN. I am lucky to have tested out of the first RN semester, so I have 3 more and then onto my BSN I go!

This.

Most RN programs want A&P with lab (which, for a fact, at least in my PN program did NOT have a lab), as well as other required sciences, humanities, math, english, etc. and as stated before, the nursing courses are from a different scope.

The only thing that transferred from my LPN program was a credit to the years I have been a nurse-5 credits-when I was completing a BSN program; I had the chance to challenge health assessment and the first semester only; I decided not to and learned more that was built upon my LPN knowledge.

I agree. My LPN credits did not transfer, but most schools with bridge programs grant a year of advanced placement or en bloc credit for possessing the LPN license.
