Is anyone a student here? I am doing their gen ed program which goes from May 15-Aug 23 2012 and then I start the actual 11 month bridge program in September. If you are a student here, please tell me about the cirriculum, the clinicals, and your overall impression of the program. Thanks a bunch!

@CLUVLPN. My email is [email protected] or [email protected] (either one)

I actually have had several people comining in who are in doing thier prerequisites. I have seen some of thier orientation sheets :) I feel like Im getting early infomation. Do you remember orientation? for the two day, what all do they cover?

Great maybe we can email each other during the year to support each other through this program. I have your email saved in my address book. Let's see, what was orientation like? Well, ours was two days, you feel claustophobic because you have 100 people stuffed into a small classroom, and you're excited as heck. You get your books, get fitted for uniforms, set up time to, go to the walk-clinic to get titers done, go over protocols and procedures, etc. Definitely enjoy the calm before the storm!

@CLUVLPN Yes! Thanks for taking the time in giving us helpful information.

No problem. I aim to please:)

This school is not NLN accredited. Palm beach community college is. Many employers will not hire nurses who don't graduate from schools that are NLN (national league of nursing). I am a new LPN at the VA medical center I was accepted at this school prior to receiving my job offer. I later learned I had to drop out of the program. I cannot work as RN there. Many hospitals have this standard. Ladies do your homework first!!!

First of all it's Palm Beach State College. And second of all, the RN program at ANHO is still relatively new, so the school is working on obtaining the NLN certification. It is a great program that have produced nurses that do work in hospitals (two of my friends that are alumni of ANHO found jobs in hospitals as new grads). So it seems that you may need to take your own advice and do a little more research before putting down a school you know nothing about.

Good Morning Ladies:

I know this is a God thing that I stumbled across your page. I am currently 39 years old with a son who is a Junior at GATECH and a son who resides in Ohio and a Senior in High School. I have been a Mother since I was 18 years old and have worked relentless to provide a great life for my boys and to beat the statistical odds that are stacked up against teenage mothers. I have been an LPN since 1999 and I have tried to go to school so many times, but because of my job and kids I haven't been able to. I am now ready to live for me and get my RN. I live in Georgia, but because of where I am at in my life, I can relocate. I am currently working for a Senior Living Company as a Clinical Director and make beyond a great salary, even as an LPN. My position was created for an RN, but I earned it and have been successful in my current position for 3 years.

I want to know more about this program and do you think it is a great stepping stone to get your RN and then to continue. I would like to become a FNP specializing in Geriatrics, which is truly needed in Senior Living. I just can't let another year go by and keep talking about my RN. I paid for the Distant Learning Systems study program which prepares you for Excelsior, but in the State of Georgia you will owe Georgia up to 630 Precept Hours, which is absolutely insane.

Is there anyone here that has relocated to attend AFNHO? If so, any ideas on living arrangements? Also, are there any other Non Traditional RN Programs in FL, similar to this one. I graduated from a Non Traditional LPN Program in 1999 and NCLEX at the top 1% percentile, so I know this type of program. My LPN program was rigorous, I went to school M-F 9am to 5pm, plus Clinicals and Precepts on Saturdays or Sundays.

I read about the program not being NLN Accredited, but if you look at the FBON website only about 1/4 of the ADN programs are NLN Accredited.

Does anyone know anything about the classes transferring into a BSN/MSN program?

Any insight is helpful, even on other similar schools.

Hi MYRN2014, congrats on moving forward to pursue your RN degree! Well, as you've probably already read in the above posts, ANHO is located in West Palm Beach, FL. It is true that for now the school is not NLN accredited, however the RN program there is still relatively new (first class graduated Dec 2012) so the program is still trying to establish itself. I am part of the fifth graduating class which will graduate in May 2014. The program has three or four start dates a year, so if you decided to relocate from Georgia to South Florida, you can probably begin in a couple months, depending on whether or not you have done your pre-reqs. My schedule is Mon-Thurs 5p-11p, but I hear that some future classes will have the option to attend school during the day. Hopefully, you will be able to transfer your job down here as well. It's funny you mention Excelsior College, I actually took my pre-reqs through them, then transferred them to ANHO. Upon receiving my RN license, I plan to complete my BSN through Excelsior. I've contacted several of the public colleges/universities in the area, and unfortunately they do not accept ANHO's degree. However, if you're looking to get your BSN or MSN after completing your ADN, then perhaps check out the private schools in the area (Keiser, Nova, South), or reputable online schools. As far as living arrangements, one bedroom apartments in a decent neighborhood in West Palm run $800+ a month. There are plenty of apartment communities within minutes of the school, just do an online search. As far as other non-traditional schools, perhaps others can chime in on that topic. Hope this helps a little!

Thanks CLUVLPN!!! I am thinking of purchasing a Condo/Townhome, which I can use as either a vacation home or rental later on. It will be cheaper to do this, as opposed to paying $800 a month. I want to relocate anyway from Georgia and have friends that have relocated to Florida and absolutely love it.

How are your Clinicals? Do you feel that AFNHO is preparing your to be competitive as an entry-level RN? My RN will be used to enhance my career, which having an RN can boost my salary up to 20K depending on the company, as well as will allow me to do some business opportunities I have been interested in that require an RN. I don't ever see myself working in a Hospital long-term.

It would be nice to hear from others if there are other non-traditional schools. I don't have all my pre-requisites, so I like the idea that I can complete them at AFNHO.

What are the average educational degrees of your instructors?

Thanks

I myself would prefer another school. I have three friends attending Academy of Nursing now, and they hate It.

Well, AD79, you're entitled to your own opinion. I have done exceptionally well in the program and will finish in six weeks near the top of my class. ANHO does have its faults, like any other nursing school, but it in the end it's obtaining the RN license that matters. Perhaps your friends are struggling and that's why they hate it?

Hello everyone!! Graduated from ANHO in early June (only 41 out of 100 made it), took NCLEX yesterday, and found out I passed today! No complaints, in and out in a year, and now I have RN status!! Totally stoked!!
