Kaplan SD LVN-RN May 2013

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Hello all!

I am a current LVN applying to Kaplan san diego lvn- rn to start may 2013. I graduated from Kaplan LVN program in February and currently work and volunteer at a local hospital. At first I was very ANTI private school, but I have working at my prereqs since 2007, and after so many years of school and not being accepted into a CC I am happy to go to Kaplan. I really enjoyed the LVN program and feel that I am a very proficient nurse.

ANyways, Im looking for anyone else who is also applying and wants some encouragement! We are all in this together!!!

Hello everyone! I too applied for the may 2013 ADN program at Kaplan, SD. They told me that there are 20 guaranteed seats for LVN to RN step up, and everyone else is competing for the remaining 45 seats. They said to shoot above a 90% on the KTP in reading and math, writing is not counted unless necessary. I vaguely ywent over study guide and got a 93 in math and 91 in reading and a 30 on the wonderlic. I think if you are nervous use the study guide to your advantage and you should be fine :) I know that my packet has been submitted for acceptance, and I was told they would be calling me around the first week of February. I don't think private schooling is ideal for all, I know for myself it wasn't my first choice. I decided to go to Kaplan after years of waiting for community college acceptance, with no avail. I am a recent graduate of Kaplans MA program (alumni get points towards their acceptance!) I went this route because my plan was to go straight into the RN program and not work. I have been very pleased with the education I have received at Kaplan thus far and am very excited to begin the ADN program, that is if I get in! Also, you ARE able to transfer the credits to Kaplan university or university of Phoenix, as previously mentioned in this thread. Overall, I think that the ADN program is a good one that is thorough and there are good passing rates on the NCLEX! Good luck to all and hopefully ill be seeing you in class!! :)

Hi clairemarie, I hope we do hear back the first week of February! My advisor said it might take longer than that but for sure by the end of February. That would be such a more difficult wait though. How long ago did you hear the first week of Feb? That's cool you did the MA program. My first advisor had been encouraging me to do the MA or the PCT program (or CNA and then get a job) but when I did well on the wonderlic said I should just go for the ADN. When did you finish you're MA program? I'm sure the experience will benefit you in nursing school. So you never tried to get a job as an MA after finishing the program? I've wondered if it's hard to find a job after doing that program. When I was a dental assistant they hired someone who had finished the Kaplan MA program and couldn't find a job as a Medical Assistant. She blamed the accredidation issues on not being able to find a job but after getting to know her I had a strong suspicion it was her and not the Kaplan program:rolleyes:. I suppose she was probably a better medical assistant than dental assistant but boy did she have a slow time learning her way around infection control!! Yikes!

So how are you occupying your time if you're not working without going crazy with the waiting? I'm having a tough time with the not going crazy part myself. I don't know how I'll make it until May:arghh:!!! My husband is telling me I should just enjoy my time off (and do lots of chores hahaha!). But for me that is easier said that done. Let us all know when you hear back from admissions!!

Hi Jujubees, I was told the soonest would be Feb 6th or after so im hoping to hear back soon! I recently finished the MA program in December of 2012. I originally planned on going straight into the January start class for the nursing program and not working as an MA during the program. My reason for taking the MA course was soley for the experience to gain entrance in the ADN program, but i was pleasantly surprised with the great thorough education and experience i received and agree that it will benefit me during nursing school. Now that i have a few months from now until the start of the program, I was planning on just working my job as a server downtown and honestly enjoy the time until school starts. I know it is going to be intense and take up all of my time, so if I were you i would enjoy the time and prepare yourself mentally as well as your family or loved ones for the rigorous schooling you are about to face. Since graduating from the MA program, the career services department has been ACTIVELY helping me on a daily basis with new job opportunities! They do a great job. Nadia in the career services department actually sent my resume without me even knowing and got me an interview this monday! I don't believe that it is THAT hard to find employment after graduating from Kaplan, if you are actively searching and applying! I know several students that graduated with me that have found jobs or were hired onto their externship site. Its more based on the individual and their determination to find a job! anyways, goodluck in these next few weeks of waiting and let me know if you hear back from admissions as well! :)

Let me just say that based on all of my research and personal experience, you cannot go wrong with Kaplan University... They have a great program and they review it constantly to make sure they keep up with things. Good luck to you all!!!

Congratulations!! That's so wonderful :) careful with the drug screen, I've read about people getting disqualified for drinking too much water before hand. Drink as little as you possibly can! :)

I got a call as well. I'm a little bummed. I didn't get in for the first round but I still have a shot. Now I have to wait until march! Oh golly. Haha. There are still over twenty seats left I guess, and the alternate seats as well. I hope I get in. I did get a 38 on the wonderlic *seeking encouragement* haha... My lack of medical experience makes me nervous...

Holy cow juujuubees that's really good!!!! I'm sure that would help I had to take it 4 times to pass!!! You'll be fine!! They have to leave some suspense :) I hope you start in may too

Good to know about the drug screen too lol that's scary!!!

Thanks for the encouragement! I appreciate it. About the drug screen my advisor was very specific about how I shouldn't drink any water beforehand. But I thought that if other people had issues with it in the past maybe not every advisor says that every time! That would be such a sad reason to not get into the program

Has anyone else heard anything from admissions?

Hello jujubees. I also have been accepted into the may program. My advisor called me a couple weeks ago to give me the good news and she told me I probably won't hear back until the end of march. So I'm assuming that will be for the drug test and physical stuff. I'm a little nervous because I hear a lot of things about Kaplan grads having trouble finding jobs. What are your thoughts? Anyone have anything positive???

Congrats! I hope I'll be seeing you at school in may! Yes I do have something positive to say :). Someone my father knows who is an np around here said that kaplan nurses have a good reputation. This is via my fathers conversation though, I wasn't there. I think each person's flexibility and initiative will have a lot to do with finding a job. I'm worried too though, just hoping that things will get better for new grads all around by the time we graduate :)
