Failed course in last semester before graduating??

Hi all,

Speaking for a friend here. Not a "friend" (aka me), but a nurse I've become close with in the last few years. She is currently an ADN who was a student in the RN-BSN program. The school's policy states that students who fail two classes will be removed from the program permanently. She failed one class sometime during the program, and then failed one more during her very last semester before graduation. She took it online and there seems to be some disconnect due to the nature of the interactions. Of course she accepts responsibility for the outcome, but it's still awful to be sent home at the very end of the journey.

My question is, what are her options at this point? Will other nursing programs accept her? If so, will they accept her credits?

She is a wonderful and genuine nurse who pushed herself through school while working full time with kids. She is still stuck with the student loans but is left without a degree. It seems there must be a few options for her, even if they are not exactly ideal.

I don't know. She will need to start calling schools to find out her options. Hope a good one presents itself.

The short answer is "it depends". Individual schools will have their own policies on what they will and won't accept, and whether one failure or two is their maximum before refusing consideration for admission.

But you said your friend is already an ADN, but is in a RN-BSN program, so that tells me she's a licensed RN already...? So while you mention the kids, etc, it's NOT that she doesn't have a degree, she doesn't have a BSN.

She'll have to contact other schools and see what their policies are on admission with a failure on her record....no one here can know much more than that.....Good luck!

Yes, I meant that she is without a bachelors degree, but you are correct in that she does have her nursing license. I was afraid that was the answer but I was hoping somebody online may have been in a similar situation... Thank you both for your kind wishes.
