Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I have sooooo many questions about the LPN to RN program. #1 I'm scared out of my mind because I know how hard nursing school was when I obtained my LPN degree. Why are they making it so hard to become nurses? It seems as though it's almost impossible, at least in my opinion. I'm a single parent that works full time and I'm finishing my prereq's online. I don't know how I'm going to do any clinicals because I'll have to be at the hospital so early in the mornings. This is a major factor for me and I may change my major because of it.

No, I'm not in the nursing program yet I'm doing prereq's. I was in an accelerated program called "Kaylim Career Center" but that didn't work out. However; I should have made it work because I'm still paying for it. It was an accelerated program that was just starting off and I should have just waited until the program took flight. The students and I were basically fending for ourselves, the instructor turnover rate was ridiculous.

you don't do clinicals with excelsior. You will go for one weekend and they will test you on basic nursing skills. Leo2

I thought that excelsior wasn't an accredited school though?! Anyway, I don't think I want to pay for another school, I'm still paying Kaylim as we speak but I'm taking prereq's at CC so that I can get financial aid. I do however; need the structure of a classroom so I don't think that going for one w/e would have been enough for me. If I was nervous and didn't meet the expectations of the procter on that w/e then that would have been the end for me and plus that w/e isn't even covered in the cost that I'm still paying the school. That's an extra $3 grand for the w/e.

Excelsior is NLNAC accredited, and all my credits transferred into my brick-and-mortar BSN program. I do live in a state that accepts EC, though.

Hi ngrshm,

I was reading your post. Please do not get discouraged. I am a LPN, have been for 12 years, also a single parent with no family support and I just started LPN-RN school in Feb 2008. I will not lie and say it is easy because it is a lot of work and when you really want someting you have to put the work into to get something out of if. I go to school fulltime and work full time (weekend program). You have to set priorities and stick with them. And for me getting my RN is the priority.

I did tuition forgiveness to pay for school and took out a student loan that gives me an extra $500 a month. During the transitional course it was 5 days a week (And I worked every weekend-- 12 hours shifts) we had clinicials 2 days a week(tuesday & wednseday) and monday nights are pre-clinical nights and I am usually up til midnight during paperwork for clinical. Med cards, careplans and patho sheets, etc.

But it will be worth it in the long run. And when You decide that you want to do it and being a RN is really what then you will be able to do it.

There are plenty of nights I just want to cry, but most nights I do not even have the time nor energy to cry.

Any ?'s, just drop a line, i'll be happy to help........
