I am going to follow this! I didn't think this far ahead yet, as my program starts in January! But this is something to think about!

Me too! I start January 12th. I like to be prepared and Id hate to show up and not have something I need.

Things I kept in my bags are: stethoscope, BP cuff, drug reference guide, black PENS, note pad, hand sanitizer, scissors, Tide stain remover, breath mints, feminine products, Tylenol/Aleve and pen light!

I start in January 5th I will keep up with this post too yes it is something to think about

My class starts in December but I start in January since I did a patient care tech class last year that has the core class that is the same. So I opted out of that. But I haven't thought about my clinical bag, so might as well get every thing set up now.

Specializes in Postpartum, Mother/Baby, Comm. Health, Geriatric.

I started clinicals a month ago (at a long term care facility) this is what I have in my bag: stethoscope, BP cuff, scissors, clinical folder and paperwork needed, a piece of fruit/granola bar, water bottle, hand sanitizer, NANDA diagnosis/careplan book (some of my classmates have it on an app called Skyscape that our school kinda pushed us to get, it comes in handy but I'm a book kind of gal). You will have your school ID or facility ID to get through certain doors, stairways, etc...

You will also need a lil notepad, your watch (with second hand) to check respirations and pulses, and possibly your penlight.

Davis drug guide, care plan book, Taber's, skills book, etc. You can coordinate with your group and have each person bring one book or something and then you can all share them. That's what we do. And we need those books basically every clinical for the clinical worksheets that we have to fill out.

Are some of those books digital? If they are, you can use a smart phone, etc, and lighten up the load.

besides the black pen, bring a red pen, and a highlighter

tissues for your nose

tape for dressings

Specializes in retired LTC.

hemostat (I love them.)

Yup Hemostat is very important as well as scissors, stethoscope, penlight and black pen. I would have thought that BP cuffs would be in all room by the wall above the patient's head. Students were not allowed to use dinamap machines during my clinical days.

Also a small note book to write down stuff to ask our clinical instructor.
