I will be starting LVN Nursing school hopefully in Fall 2008 if not Fall 2009, I know it''s a ways off :o What should I do to prepare properly for Nursing school so that I am not so overwhelmed!!! Is there any special materials-books, etc. that I should buy to help me prepare? I cannot wait to start I am so excited that i am offically a pre-nursing student and soon to be NURSING STUDENT!!! I am taking biology 100 in Feb. and then after that I need to take PSY 101 because if I do not take these classes now I will have to take them before I can start the second semester nursing school. Sorry about going on and on I am ust so excited that I am slowly getting closer and closer to NURSING SCHOOL and finally becoming a NURSING STUDENT!!! I am driving my poor husband crazy because I keep talking about nursing school and he really does want to here anymore-he is happy and thrilled for me but does not want to here about it everyday:lol2::lol2: Thanks for letting me take about becoming a nurse, it's my dream:monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance:

well, my teacher said it is never too early to buy the nclex-pn review. you will have an idea how the wording of the questions are. also, the quizzes and exams are nclex-style questions so you'll be accustomed to them already by the time you start. i don't know about you though because i bought mine in the beginning of my semester so that i can "study" for the nclex already but didn't open the book 'till now that i am senior. hehe. i wish you the best of luck...

Show up, listen well, ask questions, take good notes, read ( which there is alot of) and remember you are studying to be a nurse. Isn't that great? It's hard, but you can do it.

Specializes in Behavioral Medicine.

Congratulations!!! I love your excitement.

I went to www.ask.com and looked up everything that had to do with nursing. EX. For A&P I typed in A&P test, http://www.studystack.com/flashcard-90384 this is a good site. You will have to play around with it to find what you like.

Also I got on ebay ( half.com ) and ordered nursing fundamental books and , growth and development, nutrition , PVC, pharmacology, dosage calculations, Mental Health, Etc. just look on there and look for nursing study books. Just don't let them confuse you. If you get into things you don't understand, look it up in a medical dictionary such as Tabers and learn, learn learn....Good luck!! BTW...I just passed my N-clex, pn on Sept 25th and I started out with books from half.com Some I bought for 99 cents

Congratulations on becoming a pre-nursing student!

Seriously, I would use this time to relax your mind, body, and spirit, because there will be virtually no time for relaxation once you begin the nursing program. In other words, have fun during this time period. Don't preoccupy your mind with preparation.

Good luck!

Get some books on anatomy and physiology, and maybe some basic books on pharmacology. It can be a big ol' mess without someone to explain things and without knowing what drugs you really *need* to know (the most common ones.) But a simplified version would be helpful to get you familiar. Familiarize yourself with pain meds, insulin, antihypertensives.. But don't overdo it. I'm in school now, and it's TOUGH (condensed program), so be ready to have your butt kicked. Take it easy for now, but if you feel like you have time to prep for school, it's a great idea. Good luck!! I love your enthusiasm!

You said you will be starting in Fall 2008 or Fall 2009. That gives you 1 to 2 years. I am all for relaxing too and don't burn yourself out on studying, But on the other hand if you even study an hour or 2 a couple times a week you will have a jumpstart. Learn a new medical term each day or work on Math. And relax......My way of thinking was the more I knew before hand the less hectic it was when I actually went to school. Everyone has there own niche and you will find what works for you. Again Good Luck.

OMG!!! thank you all so very very very much, I will use all of your tips and advice and thank you so very much for your kind and sweet words. I am really and truly appreciate that all of you took the time to respond to my post:nurse::biggringi it makes me very good that all of you took time out of yout busy lifes to help me out again thanks and good luck to you all!!! NURSING SCHOOL HERE I COME!!!

Specializes in My first yr. as a LVN!.

Find a book go goes over all the systems ; Urinary for example and all of the anatomy of it and then all of the diseases of it so on and so forth. This is how Im prepping for my NCLEX and its a sure way of having it stick. Or just grab a cup of coffee @ your local bookstore and sit and read... I think pre prepping is always a good idea .. kinda like preventive care .! good luck to you .. its hard but so worth it in the end. I wrote off my social life for 16 mths to conccentrate and while it drove me crazy, I had to do it to keep focused! And now next mth I graduate! .... you can do it ...
